Low Light Picture on A70

Hi all A70'er,

I am again amused by the A70 performance on low light condition
Only one table lamp in the hall and only my previous C-5050 focus
properly (Not the C-730 though)

Are those night shots taken using the Auto mode? I want to learn night photography. Just received my A70 last May 29, and still experimenting with it. This happens to be my very first digital camera. And this is also my first time doing photography with manual controls -- not just point-and-shoot.

I use Night Mode. Auto is no good for this, try to use P mode more.

Great shots! I really like the one with the candle!! Any post processing on this one? ...it looks really sharp. I'm looking to get the A70 but don't want to pay more than $249USD. Any ideas on where I can get one for this price??

John,

Thanks. Yes, I used PS for post processing. A very simple USM apply
(I think 120%,0.8,5) brings the highlight on the candle holder out.

Compared to my previous Oly model which offer in-camera sharpening
normally the A70 picture need a little post processing to archieve optimal
result.

By the way, to me, having the camera capture all possible details but
softer image is better than too much sharpening and filtering done
inside the camera. That way you lost everything, unless you intend
to print directly from camera to printer.

I don't stay in US so no help on this one. I believe US has a lot of
great discount which sometime I am very envy of. Example, the
US package of Oly comes with Battery Recharger and Remote control
but on my part of the world. :(

I bought at about US$290 :(

Hi John,

So far, I've only seen the A70 sold (in the US) for somewhere between $270 and 300. I paid $300 at Staples and they threw in a 64 MB CF card. I also paid tax but got a $10 rebate on the card. Total was about $325-10 = 314. Staples no longer offers that sale but many other will.

I also bought the A60 (as a gift for my brother - who doesn't want it) so I may keep it for myself as a walk-around camera (that is, until he changes his mind and stops buying disposable cameras at drug stores ... which, by the way, in his hands take great pictures).

You may want to consider the A60 for $50 less that the A70 if, and it's a big if, you have no expectation of printing high resolution prints greater than 4 x 6 inches.

Good luck,
