I meant 630 PS...but am wondering should I wait for the 640PS. If you are contemplating getting a hi-ti are you waiting for the 640?
Isabel
Please confirm that the CF-MS adapter allows one to use a Memory
Stick with the 930PS, I guess in the Compact Flash slot...

I decided to wait and I took delivery of the HiTi 640PS on Friday. I ordered it directly from HiTi. The reasons I decided to get the 640 were: I use a MAC and I wanted stand alone performance until MAC drivers are released for the 640 (which HiTi said they were working on; for the extra $100 I prefered to get the latest released printer in hopes of profiting from some incremental technology. The pictures are truly amazing. My Canon S9000 is not even in the same league as the HiTi. As the box that the printer came in says "Digital Minilab Just For You". It is truly like having a minilab at home.

Will wind up getting the 640PS too. I'm fed up with that Canon drinking that ink...it is so costly!

I'd like to order some paper from newegg.com. They have it for $17 a pack.

Greg....your comments about the HiTi just about have me convinced. I too have a 9000, and am irritated with all the gyrations (and costs) one has to go thru to print satisfactorily.

I'm leaning toward the Photoshuttle, which has the speed but is still in the 300 dpi range as opposed to the 640 which is in the 400 range.
I'm pondering...how much difference will it make....

According to a good friend of mine who owns a film developing lab, a "layman" like myself will not be able to distinguish between 300dpi and 400dpi. That much being said, I was not averse to spending the extra $100 for the 640 which is the "latest and greatest". I originally saw prints from a friend who has the 630 and those are what convinced me to purchase the hiti, and quite honestly I do not know if I can see a difference between my 640 and his 630, however once again "the latest and greatest".

Thanks for the followup comment Greg. I didn't think there would be that much difference, but wasn't sure. Good to hear a "pro's comments".

Newegg has the Photoshuttle for $162, but they don't carry the 640 yet.
I see HiTi lists it for $299.

I do understand your "latest and greatest" desire though.

Look forward to hearing more of your experiences with the 640.

I'm on the verge of diving for this printer. I'm lazy and cheap. I love the no-mess no-fuss prints that seems to be almost 100% reliable.

The only thing holding me back is wanting to print out greater then 6x4 more then the odd time.
Any news on a hiti that will print to A4 any time soon or am I in cuckoo land.

Cuckoo land until next year, I'm afraid. I believe HiTi has indicated a 6 x 8 format printer in 1st qtr of 2004.

I recently decided that Wal-mart's prints were far superior to what I was getting from my S9000...more detail in the dark areas, and I know the prints will last longer. So I'll use the S9000 when I "have" to have a print in a hurry. The S9000 is not good at all for text and is an ink hog. It produces very nice color on Canon paper. B/W is not one of its strong points. The one thing it has going for it is SPEED! These days I use it mostly for printing b/w sketch cards which I make of dogs. I print on non-photographic notecard paper.

The Hi-Ti is a "want" not a need. I think it is a cool thing to have and will probably use it liberally. Even though the prints will cost approx. 40 cents vs. the 26 or 29 I pay in Wal-Mart...I won't be spending $100 while waiting the hour in Wal-Mart for the prints to be made.

Isabel, just wondering then if you print mostly 4x6 size - will you
then just use the Canon for larger print sizes?

I'm wondering about how popular that will be, at least in the US,
where picture frames don't standardly come in 6 x 8 size.

I have been using the new 640PS printer for almost a month. It is a terrific printer. The colors are right on and its prints in 45 seconds. There are permanent adjustments for brightness, sharpness, contrast and color control. Get the new model, for this feature alone. It allows you to customize your printer to your preferences. I can't wait for the HiTi 6X8 printer. The dye sub process they have developed is unbeatable. It is fast, permanent and inexpensive. You can always crop to 5X7 if that is your preference. There is something to be said for making fine quality prints yourself.

I don't see any where to place an order online directly from them. Did you have to email them? Does it use the came cartridge of paper that the 640uses?
