For the past few years I hava been using the Canon G620 which has done a pretty good job. Recently I upgraded my computer from a Dell XPS 15 circa 2020, to a Mac Studio. Canon doesn't provide any drivers for the G620 when using Mac OS. So I am considering a printer upgrade that will allow me to use my Studio.

I am considering the Epson 8550 or the Canon Pro 200. I currently print color images on luster Red River paper. But I would like some paper flexibilty for the future should I wish to print using other papers.

The Epson is easily the more cost effective route, but perhaps a bit more limited in capability than the Pro 200,

My images are mostly landscapes from my A7RV. Currently I probably print 10-30 8x10's in a month.....rough guess.

I would appreciate any input on which direction or another alternative.

TIA

Pat

Genuine Canon ChromaLife 100+ inks for the Pro-200 appear to be substantially more resistant to fading from light exposure than genuine Epson Claria ET inks for the ET-8550, based on what we can take from Aardenburg's tests. The Epson inks are much less expensive. The Canon's eight colors of ink should provide somewhat smoother tonality than the Epson's five colors of ink, although how much is hard to know. If you ever want to print on matte paper, the Epson's extra matte black ink should work substantially better on some but not all matte papers. My sense of the world is that the Canon and especially its paper feed is a bit more reliable than the Epson. So IMO there are some real differences but no obvious answers, or at least for you or any particular person. It's a YMMV issue, I think.

i had that choice 2 years ago to replace my bust Pro 100. I bought the ET8550 and have been very pleased with it since it prints as well as my Pro 100 and is more versatile.

I also replaced a Pro 100 with the ET8550 and could not be happier......
