I've just bought an Ilford Advocate camera from ebay. The camera is in beautiful condition and also has an immaculate leather case. However, the shutter seems to have an issue. Speeds slower than 1/100s operate like B, i.e. the shutter doesn't close at the end of the exposure and stays open.

Does anyone have any experience of the shutter in this camera? I can't find much helpful information via google. The shutter seems very basic with metal plates, springs and pulleys that get tensioned during wind on. But I've no idea whether that means it's easy to fix or not.

It will be a shame if I need to return this pretty camera, but I do like to be able to shoot my old cameras as well as look at them.

This is one cool looking camera. I am not sure how you feel about it but getting a CLA on the camera would probably get it working again. Given the ebay prices I saw the camera is probably worth it. If you paid in the midrange of asking prices I can understand why you might not want to do the repair, but if ypou are thinking of resale it would certainly help keep the price up. It is common for a leaf shutter to gum up and the slow speeds to go first.
