A question(s) for BenQ monitor users...

I have a (several years old) BenQ SW2700PT monitor (that I like very much). I have been using the X-Rite i1Profiler and now the Calibrite PROFILER with my i1 Display Pro to create ICC profiles. But there have been hiccups and frustrations with Windows, X-Rite and even Calibrite, over the years. I wanted to try the Palette Master application that is offered (free) by BenQ, just to experience HW profiling versus profiling in Windows.

1. Anyone happily using Palette Master with a BenQ Monitor? And if so, which flavour - Palette Master Elements (PME) or Palette Master Ultimate (PMU)? What's the difference?

2. The BenQ website shows that the SW2700PT is compatible with PME, but also indicates that PME is going, or has gone, out of support and points users to PMU. But the support download page for the SW2700PT only list PME, not PMU. I can download PMU from a different page but that does not leave me with warm and fuzzy feelings that it will work for me. Also, I am not clear whether PMU supports the i1 Display Pro, They explicitly say they don't support the i1Display Pro Plus (not sure what the difference is, but I don't have the Plus).

I did pose these questions to BenQ support but have not heard back from them, and impatient me thought to ask the DPR forum(s).

I also wondered which forum would be more applicable to this question - retouching, or printing?

Thanks,
Peter

PS, I did install the latest version of PME on my Windows 11 system, and it stalls (PME is not responding) eventually shows the user interface, but I could not get past the start button. I wonder if the installed Calibrite PROFILER is running interference? Maybe both are trying to grab the i1 Display Pro device?

I'm using PME with the BenQ SW2700PT monitor and have been for a number of years. BenQ released PMU a couple of years ago. It's not compatible with older monitors like the SW2700PT. The SW2700PT is a hardware calibrated monitor. PME (and PMU) write a LUT directly to the monitor. AFAIK, only the BenQ software can do that. The software also creates an ICC profile, but the monitor doesn't use the ICC profile. I use the ICC profile for other applications and as the system default on Windows.

At its release, PMU supported the X-rite i1 Display Pro and i1 Display Pro Plus, I don't know the current support status.

Only run one calibration software. Doing otherwise might cause a conflict. It's necessary to also install the BenQ FTDI Driver.

I was a bit fuzzy as to whether it was, or was not, supported for the SW2700PT.

Yes, that is what I suspected is going on. I have already installed the FTDI driver.

Thanks again,

What is your actual colorimeter model?

I'm unaware of an I1 Display Plus.

I have an I1 Display Pro Plus.

Yeah, that's a very good question. I found X-Rite to be a bit mysterious on that naming. the part no. on the dongle says EODIS3-XR and nowhere on the device do I see the letters "PRO" however, if memory servs me correct, those letters did appear on the box that the device came in. Weird. So, I dunno.

from a Google search "i1 Display Plus versus i1 Display Pro"

mine looks like this.
mine looks like this.

And, from the Calibrite PROFILER application.,.

It thinks it's a PRO device.

Thanks,

You're welcome. I'm using PME version 1.3.21 on Windows 11 24H2. PME is no longer in development so I suppose that as new OS releases come through the pipeline, there might be compatibility issues.

OEM i1Display Pro Devices

If the part number you stated is correct, you have an i1 Display Pro.

Which should be good with Palette Master Element.

Something does not compute.

(My i1Display Pro Plus lists its part number as EODIS3PL-XR.)

I had a look at the link you provided - I did not notice anything "plus" there. Maybe that page only deals with the i1 Display Pro and various OEM iterations. Might there be some other (similar) page dealing with the i1 Display Pro Plus?

Is that the non-compute you are referring to?

Peter

[a crude joke about ending sentences with preposition comes to mind; but I won't tell it here]

The difference between the Pro and the Pro Plus isn't large.

The model number can be seen on a sticker on the weight on the USB cable. At least, mine has the sticker.

Yes, that is the number on mine that I mentioned. It agrees with BenQ's part numbering for the i1Display Pro.

In case anyone might be interested, here is the response I received from BenQ support. From my serial number, they conclude that only PME V1.3.15 is compatible with my SW2700PT and that PMU and latest (newer) versions of PME are not compatible.
