I woke up early to try to see the sun rise over the ocean, but it was too overcast. So, I used the dark morning to do some zoom bursts of the short beach at high tide. With a dash of color of course.
Nice! This is just my style, but I don’t get to the ocean beach much. If I’m not chasing bugs trying to get my focus as sharp as possible, I’m often playing with ICM shots similar to this trying to perfect the blur.
Thank you and Thrillmozila. I have fun with ICM, but people tend to like it or not care for it, it seems. I grew up in Daytona and go by the beach and try to get a photo of something whenever i get down there.
Sure. I usually use my 24-120 lens and usually hand hold but some people use a tripod. The lighting needs to be dark- for me usually early morning because you use a slow shutter speed so it shows the movement. I usually am between .5 and 1. second. The aperature depends on the subject. I’ve done flowers, fireworks, lightning so just experiment. Then zoom in or zoom out quickly and see what you get.
If the light is too bright to get the slow shutter speed, use ND filter and or close down the aperature. Then start turning your zoom and press shutter button. Experiment with zooming during the exposure or zoom-stop during exposure.
Thank you so much for sharing. Can't wait to start attempting some zoom bursts. I'm gonna try them with my 70-200 2.8. Wish me luck. Might take a minute 'cause it's supposed to be a gully-washer this weekend in Central Texas, so much that football games have been moved up or rescheduled.
