I’m organizing a highly curated, small-group photography expedition that blends one of South America’s most vivid cultural celebrations with some of the darkest, most spectacular landscapes on Earth.
Part 1 – Oruro Carnaval (Feb 14–15)
Two full days immersed in Bolivia’s UNESCO-listed Carnaval de Oruro — an explosion of color, music, and motion, ideal for dynamic portrait and documentary-style photography.
Part 2 – Salar de Uyuni & the Southern Altiplano (Feb 16–21)
We’ll travel south by private 4×4 across the high Bolivian desert, photographing the mirror-like Salar de Uyuni, flamingo lagoons, geysers, and the volcanic peaks of the Eduardo Avaroa Reserve, including the Lincancabur region near the Chilean border.
At night, we’ll work under Bortle 1 skies (21.8–22.0 mag/arcsec²) — ideal for Milky Way panoramas, time-lapses, and reflected-sky compositions on the salt flats.
Part 3 – Atacama Desert (Feb 22–24)
Crossing into Chile, we’ll finish the journey in San Pedro de Atacama, capturing golden-hour light over the Valle de la Luna and deep-sky vistas beneath some of the clearest air on the planet.
A Learning & Collaboration Experience
This expedition welcomes both experienced astrophotographers and those newer to the craft who want to learn and share knowledge in the field.
Because the group will be small, we’ll share participants’ backgrounds in advance to ensure a compatible, collaborative dynamic.
We’ll follow best practices for night-sky etiquette and technique, so that every participant—regardless of experience—can capture the skies to their full potential and enjoy the process.
Highlights
Spaces are limited to maintain comfort, safety, and the collaborative spirit of the trip.
