On another forum some have had same issue, one tried resetting -- it's helpless.That's odd! FWIW, I've been using firmware 1.8 since it became available and my OM-1 doesn't have that problem.
I guess I'd try a full reset.
There are some similar cases in a German forum without any clue what triggers this issue. I guess the only thing you can do atm is to roll back to 1.7.On another forum some have had same issue, one tried resetting -- it's helpless.That's odd! I'm waiting response from OM support. Camera has still warranty.

My OM-1 froze up on two occasions three months ago and would not turn off with the switch, just like yours. I had to remove the battery. I was still on FW 1.7, so I don't think it's necessarily caused by FW 1.8. I created a thread about it and got a few suggestions, one of which was to replace the SD card, which I did. It hasn't happened since then. HERE is the thread.There are some similar cases in a German forum without any clue what triggers this issue. I don't have the purple bug but odd freezes lately with the 150-400. Camer and display freezes and does not switch off even wenn using the off lever. Only battery reset helps in this case. Happened approx. 8 times since 1.8, and I had only less time lately and wasn't out that much...
One OM-1.1 is currently in repair, when it's back I will roll back to 1.7 on both.
Both Olympus and OM1 cameras have done this occasionally when they have problems writing to SD cards. Reformat the SD card using SD Card Formatter on your PC and then reformat in the camera. This sometimes solves the card problem, if not, try a different card or different manufacturers card.My OM-1 froze up on two occasions three months ago and would not turn off with the switch, just like yours. Thank you, I missed this thread. Will try different cards now. This may have solved the problem, but until I've been out on a shoot for an extended time I won't be sure.Both Olympus and OM1 cameras have done this occasionally when they have problems writing to SD cards. Mike, the problem that apparently was related to the SD card was the camera freezing up, not that it had the purple screen. The discussion of the freezing problem just temporarily hijacked the thread.This may have solved the problem, but until I've been out on a shoot for an extended time I won't be sure.

Thank you epozar for your suggestion!Install the older firmware to see if that changes anything?
using an sd-card method
If it were the firmware, wouldn't it happen on every camera with that firmware? An interesting issue for sure. So far, cross fingers, I never had that issue. Wiggle the lens mount just to eliminate a bad contact possibility when it happens again. I had the screen going funky from a bad contact, who knows.Thank you epozar for your suggestion!Install the older firmware to see if that changes anything?

It may help but I'm going to send my camera to OM anyway, for checking and cleaning. It is under warranty. Perhaps OM installs firmware 1.7 as they did for one guy.

I seem to have the same purple screen problem. Do let us know how you get on with OM and whether firmware v1.7 solves the problem. I'm not planning any major trips for a while so in the meantime I'll just use my other OM-1.Thank you epozar for your suggestion!Install the older firmware to see if that changes anything?

Not necessesarily, it could be some interaction with a particular setting.If it were the firmware, wouldn't it happen on every camera with that firmware?
Thanks. Sounds like we're not alone. Hopefully it's a firmware issue and there will be a correction issued.Purple screen issue with FW1.8 also reported by some people on MU-43 forum.
