Hi Fujians

Did you see, Laowa now offers a 200/2 AF FF lens. Of course it needs adaptation for Fujifilm-X.

On the Venus Optics website, the Canon EF version is $ 1799.

Weight is 1.59 kg.

Pre-order and shipping in November.

Maybe an alternative to the costly XF 200/2 lens.

Cheers,

Martin

That sounds like a potential humdinger.

I had to use a translator :)

If you mean the weight: the Fujifilm APS-C variant is 2.27 kg.

Ha 😂. What I meant was it could be a great option. For those with Fringers anyway. It'll be interesting to see how the AF works on a native body before anyone dives in and mates it with a Fuji.

I did not notice the EF version. My concern is that you need to use an AF adapter for the lens and with the Fringer adapter, until they do a lens profile for it you would have contrast AF which is rather slow. There is no guarantee that Fringer would ever do the lens profile. The Canon 200mm f2.8 EF L works great with the Fringer and it's much lighter and only a tiny bit slower.

Well, like the Sigma 135mm/1.4, it is a lens that would make a lot of sense on Fuji X, but somehow we're not going to get :(

That said, rumors have it that Laowa will release a GFX version of their 200mm f/2...

I'm waiting for a native version.

In that case, it will be the first third-party auto lens for GFX. I'm not sure if it will be true. Anyway, Fringer has already optimized it on their EF-GFX Pro adapter. Using its EF version on GFX looks promising.

Fringer already launched firmware updates to support this new Laowa

I'm giving it 5-6 months to be available for Fuji mount. Beyond that, I am buying for my Sony FF camera. Must admit though it's tempting to get an EF mount version and use my reliable Fringer adapter.

You are correct. I had not read the readme for Fringer EF-FX Firmware V 2.90 yet as the update is in my queue.

I bet Laowa sent a demo unit to Fringer so they could add the profile. Very smart move coming out with EF version as there are adapters for most other camera mounts and it gets them past the Canon restrictions for there modern mount as people can use Canon's own EF adapter.

I've watched a few reviews of the lens including comparisons to the more expensive and heavier Sigma. The sigma is sharper and has less CA and sharper corners wide open yet the Laowa is still a very nice lens. I'm going to stick with my Canon 200mm f2.8 L as it does a sweet job and the size is also an advantage.

Seems like the question has been answered, but fair point about the Canon.

When the news of this lens were spread on the rumour websites, it was always stated that there will be a Fuji X version, which will be released later.

Here, for example:

https://thenewcamera.com/laowa-af-2...mages-specs-price-rumors-and-release-updates/

Scroll down to „Specificatons“. There it is named under „Mounts“
true, it was rumoured from the beginning that fuji X and GF mounts will come later...and with the lens basically being a DSLR design, it's entirely possible they'll make those versions too...i also believe that Laowa worked with Fringer to bring the support to their adapters as fast as they did
