Our X2D II 100C thoughts - ask us anything!

Any improvements around the custom profiles?

Can they be now renamed to something else then Profile 1, Profile 2 etc.?

Thanks

Can you please, when shooting with adapted lenses:
  • Whether Shutter Speed Limit can be set to 2F, F, F/2? (currently it is not possible, you have to set it to a given value?
  • Does the focal length of the adapted lens, which is manually entered in the "Stabilization" menu get written in the metadata of the raw file?
  • Does the joystick work as with auto-focus lenses? Any difference?
Thank you

In addition: Does subject recognition work with adapted lenses?

Thx

In some ways I'm relieved it is still 100mpx. The 200 MByte files on the X2D are manageable and I think my deepest crop ever still resulted in a 20mpx image.

I look forward to reading your review. I doubt I'll upgrade as for now I'm interested in getting a long lens though I don't think it exists.... something in the 200mm range.

There are a lot of improvements from the X2D for me most interesting is the screen but one thing is not improved is the frame rate. The frame rate of the X2D is 3.3 fps but of the MkII only 3.0. is that in AF-C mode or also in MF or AF-S? All MF cameras have a slow readout speed but Fuji manages in 12 bit mode 7fps. I guess one has to wait for the next (triple stacked) sensor from Sony to get any significant improvement.
That's in AF-C mode with exposure metering. The original X2D, so it's obviously single-AF only; in my mind AF-C is definitely worth the minor speed downgrade, since it makes burst shooting substantially more viable.

You mention Fujifilm's 7fps mode. Hasselblad's continuous burst mode is 14-bit by default, which probably explains at least some of the delta there. Also worth noting: you don't get HDR JPEGs/HEIFs when shooting in continuous drive mode.

Commenting on this is scary because glass houses and all that. 😂 But for the first image, I'd say it seems to have focused on the back eye rather than the front one, which seems like an odd choice. On the second one, her face does seem a touch soft. However, I suspect you could print both images pretty large before those issues started to become apparent.

A big concern for me is that the camera is not impressive when it comes to a wireless workflow (on the street and in the studio). At least if you don't own any apple device.

There is no Android App.

Third Party Apps are probably not possible.

The camera does not even support uploading to an FTP server.

I assume nothing has changed in this regard?

So while I can immediately share photos of people I just met with other cameras and preview what my R5 just did in the studio wirelessly on a big screen the Hasselblad is not doing any of this.

What's my best wireless stratega here?

1) Get an old iPhone that is good enough the match the cameras WiFi standard to upload the photos to Lightroom Mobile while connected to my Android as a Hotspot?

2) Are there CF cards readers with a battery and a Wifi push feature?

I don't really feel the USB cable or USB card reader solution on the go.

I don't read this as an "it wont".

I have an Android phone so I initially I thought this would be a bit of a pain but X2D 16 bit images really should be edited on a larger high quality screen. The iPad Phocus app is very good for field work. I upgraded my iPad and keep it in the X2D's bag. If I have something to upload I tether off my phone.

I wandered this way through Iceland in May and the Blue Ridge Mountains last week and, for me, this works extremely well.

Hey Hasselblad, please add a healing tool to Phocus. The sensor is exposed and it is super hard to ensure no dust gets on it between lens swaps.

The focus on HDR and the inclusion of LiDAR are as fascinating to me as they are odd.
It's interesting i saw on Manny Ortiz YT vid

LiDAR helped to shoot contrastless subjects. I often shoot artwork that are contrastless or painted blurry, so even with my GFX I had a hard time with critical focussing - often had to change to manual focussing and using another subject to focus on in the same plane. This LiDAR would make it straight forward. Definitely low light autofocusing LiDAR is a game changer, especially as EVF look very grainy in low light.

Need something small as described.

I do not need to edit full screen for a quick share, never needed it with 40MP and 100MP will be fine too, the output to quickly share won't be full res anyway.

And in the studio it's already going to the big screen. I don't need a big pad just to push the files to lightroom (that's all it's going to do) so it's on the 40" 4k screen.

So...

I have been wrestling with the decision to upgrade my camera body to the Sony a1 II and now here comes the X2D II...

I think I'm hooked already but its a big move because the body is only part of the story obviously. My question concerns which lens would you recommendations to make the best use of what Hasselblad claims is this camera's new capabilities - handheld landscape, portrait and street? Right now my "go to" every day lens is the Sony F1.4/25 GM as an indication for a starting point.

Thanks all in advance

Is this a new night vision king compared to the Canon R5?

I remember the old times when medium format wasn't really good at that and completely out of reach financially.

New to the forum here. Thank you for the great review / overview of the X2D2. I am curious, though, what people's thoughts are on going from aGFX to X2D2? Some context:

I've been on the GFX train since the beginning and currently use a GFX 100 II with the 55, 110 and 250. I don't really use the video features that much (use a separate camera for that). Most of my work is fairly slow shooting - studio, art, experimental, some environmental, etc.. I don't really lug the GFX around for everyday, but with the X2D I could, and it seems like they are pretty close to parity in terms of features (sans video).

I also shoot a ton of film on both medium and 35mm. On that end I use a Hasselblad 503cx, Contax G2 and T3. Earlier this year I introduced the Hassy 907x and CFV100 to the kit so I can shoot film + digital on the 503cx with all my old glass, but also just use the 907x as is with a 38mm V lens. Really love that thing.

Not I am wondering if I should move my GFX kit over to all Hasselblad to reduce having to maintain two systems (which is stupid expensive). I'm not a super techy photog, although I (obviously) love my kit, and it seems everyone here is super technical, so wondering what some of you might do in my situation?

Apologies if this is the wrong thread to post such a question in. Thanks in advance!

Support just told me the XCD 80mm f/1.9 wont get that update "hardware limitations", really sad.
