In the half-decade that I've been collecting N1 gear and accessories, I've felt guilty about neither the quest nor the expenditures. Absent the fact that every item has increased in value since purchase, I take solace in the following article: https://35hunter.blog/2020/12/27/gear-acquisition-syndrome-gas-is-to-be-enjoyed-unless/

However, the journey has abruptly and unexpectedly come to an end. Need aside, everything that I have covetted is in hand, including the final (and rarest) pieces - two pristine Really Right Stuff BFT1-L brackets. [Add these to my "What are your favourite NI accessories?" thread].

So what will replace GAS? Musk understands this better than anyone. Creative, novel implementations of the acquired technologies and equipment. And of course, a release from obsessive scouring FB Marketplace, KEH, B & H, etc., etc.

That’s an interesting article - thanks for sharing it.

I definitely have too many N1 cameras and can’’t justify having all of them. About all I can say is: photography is such a big part of my life and has only gotten to be bigger after retirement. Since Nikon abandoned the N1 system there will never be any new/improved N1 gear so I feel compelled to buy gear in good condition while it is still available.

Every N1 body has a lens attached and is readily at hand, so I don’t waste time swapping lenses when an opportunity arrives. About the only time I need to think about selection is when I’m going out somewhere and then decide what lenses I’ll want and what camera features are important.

I’ve also noticed how the prices on used N1 cameras and lenses has increased.

I’d be worried if I was buying from many incompatible brands/systems. I’ve proven to myself that N1 works for whatever I want to photograph so there’s no quest for more MP or IBIS or the f/2.8 trinity.

Looking back to when I first coveted a camera, it could be said that I wanted to have GAS, but I could not afford to! Don't get me wrong, I have had many cameras over my lifetime just not all at the same time. In the last few years I have been fortunate to have a little extra funds that has allowed me a little GAS, but I am still very disciplined about it. I only buy used or refurb and almost always several years old. My Z50 and 200-500 are the two exceptions, and they were technically Christmas gifts at that. At this point, I really can't think of anything I need or want, but that could change!

Why not a slightly bigger, costlier, but much more capable cameras and lenses, the M43 group. My wife uses that and Nikon 1 stuff, and some of the M43 lenses and camera bodies she uses are pretty awesome. All are at least 10 years old.

The PL100-400, by now a pretty old lens, but what a lens! Coupled to the old GX-8 (big but light with a huge EVF), it's amazing as the lens's OS works together with the camera's IBIS with excellent results.

The Olympus 60/2.8 (or whatever it is called nowadays) is an amazing macro, and so small, and the OM's newer body offerings, if you have the newer macro lenses, you can do macro stacking in the camera!

As I'm old, I try to decrease my camera pack, so some lenses leave home only rarely! But which to choose, and which to sell?!?!
