I have Photoshop 26 installed on my notebook, where I edit my photos. I have a license for the DxO Nik Collection 6 package. I installed a trial of the DxO Nik Collection 8 and, frankly, I didn’t see anything that justifies the $89 upgrade. I’d like to hear some opinions on this.

I have version 7 and have the same opinion.

"With Nik Collection 8, for example, I wouldn’t bother upgrading from Nik Collection 7 unless you have a Photoshop-based workflow and you don’t mind the big, multi-layered files needed to make use of the latest features." - Life After Photoshop.

They started a promotion today in Germany, that buying Nik collection 8 grants a free DXO viewpoint or free DXO Photolab essentials. Not sure it works for Upgrades to Nik collection 8.

But to buy it new is 160 Euros. I am only interested in Color Efex pro and Silver Exef Pro. Already have the older free version from Google. Hard to justify it at this price point.

I just got email on new offer In US can upgrade to NIK 8 from 7 for $89: Can add viewpoint for no additional cost Was not going to do upgrade because really not much new from 7 to 8 but this is very tempting Guess NIK Ver 8 upgrades not selling well to DXO PL users as pretty much aimed at Adobe

Yes, it is PL8 Essentials, which is a very cut down version of PhotoLab 8 Elite. Not sure why you would pay for that anyway since it missing many key features that make PhotoLab 8 Elite great, like Deep Prime 3.

Would one be able to upgrade this essential version to elite?

For $100 or under, I would have taken it, but I can't upgrade.

I already have u-point technology in DXO PL Elite, same with sharpen/denoise. I am only interested color efex pro and Silver efex pro. I even had a license for the original Nik tools from Nik, and have the later free version from Google installed. Sure the skaling could be better, but 160 Euros for some improvements on stuff I already have is hard to justify.

They should offer color efex pro and Silver efex pro in a version that integrates into Photolab for a reasonable price. They do already have the code.

Being as I already own DXO PL I did upgrade my NIK version and added the Vue point app for free.

Be careful what you wish for or DXO might spirit off Color Efex and Silver efx as separate apps for more money Wasn’t Film pack and Vuepoint once part of the NIK Collection I don’t remember

ViewPoint was included in Nik 3, and even given the name Nik Perspective Efex. But it disappeared again by Nik 7. Similarly, PL Essentials was bundled with Nik for one release, then removed again. Being cynical, it looks like DxO throws in one of these when a new Nik release is otherwise weak.

Agree for DXO elite and NIK7 like myself there was really not much reason to upgrade to NIK 8. And your right Perspective Efex was part of v6 forgot about that

I have PL7E. I'm waiting to upgrade when PL9E is available as going to PL8E wasn't worth it for me. Hopefully, by that time, NIK will have been improved even more...as I know PL will be even better.

I think back to when I purchased from whoever had it before it was free for a while. The reality is the newer version I have now is not much different from my first version. I think I have purchased the same version of Silver Efex 10 times.

Not buying it because I don’t use Photoshop.

I already have Photolab Elite and Viewpoint 5.

Did Silver Efex get an upgrade at all recently?
