As title says, I got the all recent new 70-200mm USM Z lens, and I tried to configure the buttons on my R5, but so far I can't see anywhere else how to modify the buttons functions. On the manual it refer me to my camera Manual but then the manual reads it in the menu button function customization which I already knew.

The thing is there's two function buttons on the lens and the two do the exact thing. I can only modify one and it is affecting both buttons.

is there a way to modify the two buttons independently?

Cheers!

As far as I know, all the lenses that have a function button have two, but they do the same thing. There are two physical buttons, so you can easily reach one from whatever grip you’re using. I have three lenses with the function button (135 F1.8, 24 F1.4, 50 F1.4), and they all work like that.

hmm bummer!

I do have a grip but I don't know if I'd still use the one on top, or maybe that's for the left handed, who knows.

Thanks anyway!

The VCM L primes have just the one function button.

The two buttons on the lens barrel are not independent. Both control the same function. I presume Canon put them there so you could reach them when the camera is in a different orientation.

There are lots of configurable buttons on the R5. You will need to read the manual or many of the R6 "set up" videos online to decide how you want to configure each button. And to add to the confusion, each button can be configured differently depending on the mode the camera is set in.

Most people only use one button. The one on the grip when in portrait orientation, one on the body when in landscape orientation.

You're right (I just checked). I never noticed before. I suppose it's because they are smaller, so you can easily reach it in whatever orientation you are holding the camera.

As covered, one is for portrait one is for landscape

My RF 24 VCM only has one button, so not quite all of them at least.
