I took this photo inside a restaurant with some reflections on the glass that I tried to remove with Photoshop (latest 26.8 ver.) Reflection Removal Tool but failed. Here's a screenshot where you can see the slider is at "0", but at "+100" the reflections are still there.

Anyone had similar experience with this tool? TIA

I have not had much luck with the Reflection tool in Photoshop either, but it is pretty easily fixed with Cloning and Remove Tools. This took me about 5 minutes total just using the remove tool and clone tool.

It is not PERFECT, but I was able to get most of the reflections out. With a little more time, I could clean it up more, but Doctors appointment is calling. LOL

The thread on this feature in the Adobe forums that started when it was release in "beta" version seemed overwhelmingly weighted toward instability and more miss than hit results. That was my early experience with reflection removal.

In the "stable" release version at least the process is more stable, not yielding digital garbage or consistently crashing the app and computer, but the results may still seem more miss than hit. That's my experience with a few dozen images.

Its worth trying but not something you can rely on if seeing there are undesirable reflections in the image when pressing the shutter button. It will likely improve in the future as Adobe has made massive strides in usable AI, if not much else.

Hit and miss for me also in LRC.

Thank you all for your kind replies. Seems I'm not the only one with this "hit and miss" issue of the reflections removal tool. Adobe has homework to do! ;)

This is what Adobe says about this: "The feature is designed to deal with large-area reflections when shooting through windows. Many other types of reflections occur in nature and are captured in photographs, but this feature may not recognize and handle those. We plan to work on expanding the supported reflection types in the future."

Yes, right now when it works it works well and when it doesn't if fails miserably. It worked in this instance

The typical scenario seems for every ai tool adobe has released so far is hit and miss at release and slow, steady improvement over time, so this one following the same process isn't a surprise to me. It is ai so it is supposed to be learning. Right now we have a kindergarten reflective tool. Generative ai released late last year is a good example, it has improved quite nicely in just 6 months. It's up to high school level already.

I posted in another thread experimenting with the reflection ai tool I have seen it sometimes yield fantastic results for lens flare as an added bonus.

I suspect the reflection is too subtle for Photoshop to recognize it.

Good enough. Maybe we expect too much from automatic tools.

Thanks Tom.

Automatic tools speed up the process considerably, when they work at expected. The REMOVE Tool is one of those that has helped considerably over the Clone tool, but it is not perfect either. It is very good with telephone wires. LOL

But, the Reflection tool is still a work in progress. Honestly, I have no idea how it works though to be honest. So, in this case, it was just back to basics, remove tool and clone tool, and some color filling.

Cleaning up this image, interestingly it cleaned up the photo portion in the frame very well, but left almost everything outside the picture on the mat untouched. Looks like it increased the contrast and some other changes of the scene itself.

This one took me about 5 minutes total. Did not use the Reflection removal Tool.

This was all with Generative Fill (Sky area and Foreground area) and cloning. The Levels for Color Correction.
