Rumor has it that Sigma will be releasing two new ASPC lenses on June 17th(at B&H's 'BILD' event), a 12mm f1.4(with aperture ring) and a 17-40mm f1.8(not mentioned is if it has an aperture ring. These, especially the latter, are very exciting lens for the X mount. Instead of trading in my 16-55mm f2.8(version1) for the version 2 I could definitely see myself getting this new Sigma zoom-it will be as heavy as the version 1 Fuji zoom but having that speed would be great. These two lenses are part of their 'Contemporary' series so we'll have to see how good they are. But exciting news I feel.

Hi Bill,

17-40mm f1.8 sounds is incredibly desirable for portrait and indoor work. I don't care about the aperture ring yet some will. I expect it will zoom backwards compared to real Fuji lenses.

I'm planning to go to Build. They have some great speakers and it's always fun to play with the gear. Possibly we will see each other there.

I'd love that, definitely going, have to sort through the schedule to select the speakers

If it’s anything like their 18-35mm it’ll be big as h3LL.

Fuji Rumors is reporting a bit over 500 grams. We'll see. This could be very good. I have always been impressed with the ART lenses in L mount and Nikon mount.

Also along with my favourite feature of 16-50mm and 10-24mm. Internal zoom.

Definitely not the average travel zoom, at least for my lightweight taste, but a very interesting option for more demanding and professional usage. Depending on its performance maybe not for everyone regarding photography since people love to pixel peep nowadays - I don't - but for video it should please almost everyone.

Sounds like it is a good bit lighter than the original 16-55 Fuji and not much heavier than the Mark 2 version. That's good news, could be a runaway hit for Sigma since the other ASPC camera makers also have nothing similar.

The rumors seem to indicate the 17-40 will be an Art series. If this is as good as any recent Sigma release, how could it not be anything but a runaway hit. Smaller size than the semi-legendary 18-35, potentially replacing several primes, and possibly even something to use for astro? I'd say add it to a reason to stay, or get into, Fuji (or aps-c in general)- hopefully.

The counter-directional zoom of the 17-40mm would be a deal breaker for me but the concept is otherwise very appealing.

If the 12mm comes in around similar size and weight as say the Samyang 12mm f2 I reckon I’d be all over that - although being a f1.4 I’d say that’s wishful thinking.

Well, that lens just turned twelve years old, so I doubt we can infer too much from it. At any rate, rumor sites say that the new lens will weigh 535 grams, which seems quite reasonable to me, if true.

I have to say, I care nothing for which way a lens turns for zooming. Is it really such a big thing? Perhaps for a professional with muscle memory built on using one system and its lenses and needing to be on the button at all times to catch near instant changes, but for most folk it'd make not a blind but of difference, surely.

I’m sure the majority of users don’t have a problem with it but I had a Tokina or Tamron lens (can’t recall which) when I had my Canon gear which was counter-directional to every other zoom I owned and it was an absolute PITA.

I get that it's a personal thing, but it's not a hill to die on for me. I'll use any old lens if it's a goodun, whether the focus or zoom travels left or right. But that's life, and that's photography. You're no doubt a very happy photographer with your approach, and that's what's important. I hope that comes across genuine as it is meant to be, and not as passive aggressive! 😁

Re. the leaked zoom lens, it puts me in mind of the Canon 17-40mm f4L. That was a tidy lens, if not the best of the L lenses by a stretch. Versatile though, whether in 35mm equivalent or crop. If it reviews well I may actually buy a new lens for the first time since I bought the XF100-400mm. Everything else has been used lenses since then.

I had the Sigma 35mm f1.4 Art lens with Nikon, and it was wonderful, similar to the current Viltrox 27mm f1.2.

This lens ruins my plans to wait for Tamron to release the 70-180mm f2.8 for Fujifilm X, to complement the Tamron 17-70mm f2.8... or... to buy this Sigma lens and have it complement the Fujifilm 50-140mm.What should I do?

I wonder if the 17-40 is a refresh of the 18-35 f1.8 Art lens. I have the F-mount version and use it a lot on my Fuji cameras with a Fringer adapter. It is a really great lens but the motors are a little loud for video. I hope they refresh the 50-100 f1.8 Art too.

Perhaps if the fuji art sells well there will be more A 50-100/1.8 for fuji would be fantastic

No one’s saying it, so I’m just here to say the 12mm 1.4 has me VERY excited! If it’s similar but lighter than the Viltrox, I’ll for sure get it. I’ve loved the 10-18 and it’s not going anywhere, but I’m a prime person at heart. 12+18+33 would be such a fun combo for family trips.

Hmmm, June 17th is my birthday. Who wants to buy one for me?
