In windows 11, 24H2, when I go to:
- (winkey +x) > Settings
- then select "System" in the left pane
- then select "Sound" in the right pane
In the "Output" section at the top, I see:
- Speakers (Realtek (R) Audio)
- This one is the audio jack on the back of the PC.
There is no Speaker in Sound Setting.
- LG HDR 4K (2-HD Audio driver for display audio)
- This one is via my HDMI cable to my LG 4K monitor.
Do you see similar "Output" audio devices in settings?
Also, if you scroll down in the right pane to "Advanced" section and click on "More sound settings", the "Sound" window should pop up.
- Click the "Playback" tab and the sound devices should be listed.
- Verify that "Speakers" is selected as the default.
Let us know what happens.
Sounds like the audio driver for the motherboard's audio was not installed correctly. (no pun intended).
PS: When I recently built my PC using a MSI motherboard, MSI has a "MSI Center" app. It installed "ALL" of the drivers that the motherboard needed. Many of them I had no clue of their existence. So if I had installed the drivers manually myself, I would have missed installing/updating several drivers. ..... Maybe check if the motherboard for the PC you're working on has a similar driver installer. Makes a tedious job into a one click job with superior results.
Especially when working on a friend's PC where you don't have the time or inclination to do extensive research on which drivers to install. And it's the motherboard's drivers instead of Win11 drivers.
