Shot in 8K 30P 2.35:1 Flat profile. Wide dynamic range video: bright sun in the park, medium light in the shed with the Saturn V, and then in the main center, no light at all, except for exhibits and rides.

Great video but 8K just is not worth it and its unlikely it ever will be in anything outside of full frame CMOS and even then downsizing it to 4K or archival is the primary goal. Unless youre 4 feet from a 60 inch 8K screen youre not going to see the difference between it and an 4K one, but your wallet will.

Much of the slight difference between 8K and 4K in this example are due to 8K being given 3-4x the bitrate from youtubes codec. The resolution power between them is virtually same due to action camera hardware limitations compounded by the fact like 12 people have 8K screens due to the reason mentioned above; not worth. I would go so far as to say its a scam to get people to buy, when in fact consumers need to get smarter about this stuff and demand features that actually matter, like standardizing 120hz displays high nit and 10bit or more good quality HDR standards. Not to mention good color accuracy and

I clearly see a difference between 8K video viewed in 4K and 4K shot videos in 4K. So do the many people I show comparisons to (not a representative sample of consumers!).

I also clearly see the difference between 5.3K GoPro and 4K GoPro and 4K from other action cams. I view videos mostly on 4K monitors of 27" and am within 3 feet. Or 90" 4K projected within 8 feet. I also view videos on my oled phone screen that is 1440P and I can also see the difference.

I also shoot 8K 60P RAW with the Nikon Z8. So my experience is not restricted to an action cam.

Consumers need to know that videos shot in 4K are not full 4K because of debayering. I am sure you know that. So it makes sense 8K or 5.3K videos viewed in 4K look better than original 4K videos. I am not deluded. And it is not a scam.

Whether the difference is worth paying for is up to the consumer. It is there.

For downsampling it is very good to make up for pisspoor CMOS chips that cant do proper 4K, as per my example it doesnt even always work there and its mainly a bitrate issue. For consumption it is irrelevant due to viewing distance. Keep in mind those examples were zoomed in. I gave 8k an unrealistic advantage there and it still was bearly noticeable and not even due to it being an 8K downsample in this case.

Anyone can see the difference between 4k and 8k. Its not hard, but you can only see it in very unrealistic circumstances, like being ridiculously close to the screens thus 8K screens are a scam. 8K capable imaging chips are NOT (usually).

1. 5.3 or 8K downsampled to a quality 4K image viewed on a 4K screen = good.

2. 5.3k or 8K displayed on an 8K screen costing twice as much as #1 = no better than #1

It isnt like 1080p to 4K was, where the optimal viewing distance went from roughly ~8' from a 50" 1080p display before you started to see the pixels, down to ~4' for 4K. Do you sit closer than 4 feet from a 50 inch screen? Hows your neck?

To see the difference between 8K and 4K video on a 50 inch screen youre going to be closer than 4 feet from the screen. Scam. Goto a store and try it like a crazyperson with a measuring tape. You juussst might be able to perceive a hint of something different at 5 feet if you strain your eyes. What is visible though the the clarity and crispness of a proper 4K image from a normal human viewing distance when downsampling. Just not in the case you provided on yt.
