Yesterday I visited Wildlife Safari Park, San Diego Zoo, and I set Subject Detection to "Cats" for the Sumatran Tigers. Today I took pictures of Oystercatchers mating, but forgot to change the Subject Detection to "Birds".

It doesn't appear to me that having the Wrong Subject Detection setting made any difference in the results. The Oystercatchers look ok to me.

If there is an obvious eye, the camera tends to focus on it for either animal or bird (maybe because I have Eye Detection Frame turned ON). I haven't tried it with Eye Detection turned OFF.

Your bird has really obvious eyes which probably helps.

However, focus it tends to work more reliably with the appropriate subject ID.
