Hello,

I just downloaded the free version for Mac. I have a Z8 and cannot get it to upload any files. I tried both 8 bit and 10 bit H.265 with no success. I downloaded an encoder converter and tried DNxHD along with DNxHR - nothing. It seems like nothing will upload.

I am running a MacBook Pro M3 Max

Thank you for any help!

Try an 8-bit H.264 file. Will that load into Resolve? That is perhaps the most generic of all current video formats, and I know the free version of Resolve will work with it.

If it still does not work for you, perhaps you should delete Resolve and re-install it.

Have you tried using any of the files from the camera with iMovie? (Or whatever free video editing software come with Macs these days.)

By upload I assume you mean import the media into Resolve's Media Pool. Are you trying to do this on the Media page?

DaVinci Resolve Studio, Avid Pro Tools, and a Canon C100 mk2.

There is no problem working with any of the Z8 file formats in Resolve apart from ProRes Raw so you are clearly doing something wrong. I’d suggest doing some of the basic and excellent free training provided by Blackmagic Design on their website. Resolve is a complex program and not terribly intuitive to use.

Thank you for the replys. I will attempt some study on this program, for sure.

My steps: H265/264 both 10 bit and 8 bit attempted. I took a short 5 second video and took the card out and put the video on my computer from the card. By default in Quicktime.

I open Davinci and try to drop the video in and by creating a new project and uploading the file. Every time in any format it says "does not support this file type".

Maybe a reinstall is in order?

What do you mean by upload?

I see, you have posted the same question in the Resolve Forum, and received the same question as I now ask.

Before doing anything else, why not describe what kind of recordings, you have made, and how you transfer them to your MacBook. What kind of media do you use in your camera - CF Express or SD card? The latter can be read directly in your MacBook Pro.

Alternatively, look if your Nikon has a setting for the USB-C port, that allows you to connect the camera to the Macbook via USB-C, but where the camera behaves as a card reader (many modern cameras have settings like that), or if that requires downloading a Nikon tool to your computer.

Read your Nikon manual. It will solve most problems, you may run into.

Resolve Studio (the paid-for licensed version) has no restrictions, but you have very strict limitations in the editing AND rendering (export) capabilities of the free version.

Start here: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve where a VERY short description (not complete) mentions:

"DaVinci Resolve is the world’s only all in one solution for editing, color, VFX, motion graphics and audio! The free version works with virtually all 8‑bit video formats at up to 60fps in resolutions as high as Ultra HD 3840 x 2160. The free version includes multi-user collaboration and HDR grading!"

Regards

Something to try - download and install the latest Pro Video Formats from the Apple website and see if that makes a difference. It may make no difference but it is not harmful. As far as I know, Resolve handles most video formats natively but it can’t hurt. These are required when using Final Cut Pro and get installed automatically with that.

I was also going to say try importing by using the menu rather than drag and drop which is unpredictable but the fact you get an error message suggests this is not the case. The fact you get an error message at all from Resolve when importing an unsupported file type is unusual as it typically does nothing. Anyway give my suggestion above a try.
