I discovered this feature by mistake on my Vivo phone, apparently it's hidden in the pro menu. Why isn't this turned ON by default?

I always hate the distortion I get when shooting buildings, this perspective correction would be really useful if it actually works, I have to try it next time I go out.

Do all phones have this option nowadays, I am getting old? It seems like a very useful feature to have(again, if it works).

Most new phones do have it retouch menu, also most PP apps/programs have it too. Now the question is why not enabled by default? No, you don't want it enabled as it distorts the 'reality' (size) , introduces significant crop etc. May work in scenarios where a subtle adjustments can be applied....

All good at the first glance but wrong on so many levels.....

Edit: I put the 'Samsung' version of correction just to illustrate the distortion it applies (when you can toggle both photos in browser, you will notice how they opted for 'narrowing;' the image. It would be possible to resample and enlarge it to fit '12MP' format yet I like this approach slightly better as maintains one side intact (no free lunch), Vivo does opposite and crops more to fit the frame. Neither can replace tilt& shift lens...

Thanks for the explanation, i'd rather use this than have the usual "tilting" problem when shooting buildings.

Unfortunately this option is not in the menu of my phone, or at least it's not where the guide says it is. I'il have another look.

The Pixels have perspective correction, but AFAIK, it's manual, not automatic.

Beware: correcting distorsion generally degrades image quality. It doesn't show on the phone screen but it's often visible on a normal monitor.

That's very similar to iPhone.

This is not distortion - it's normal perspective that parallel lines converge into the distance.

To achieve parallel verticals naturally, you need to hold your phone/camera vertically (not pointed up or down). This is not very practical for exterior shots of large buildings, but I do this for interior shots - always hold my camera vertically level, and adjust the height to get the perspective I want.

Small adjustments to achieve perfect verticals can make a shot more visually pleasing, but applied excessively it does look odd, and as others have pointed out, you incur a heavy crop and image degradation.
