Purchased the Fuji 70-300mm lens to go with my X-E1 and 18-55 kit lens which I've owned for many years. Am looking for sensor with same photo-look as XE1 but with better capabilities for photo, video and ergonomic use. Have owned XT2 and XT4 but found them uncomfortable and did not use all features. Considering XE2s or later, XT20, XT30ii, used XT3, XT5, or wait for new release in 2025? Any suggestions appreciated.

I’m using an X-T5 with the MHG

What did you find uncomfortable about the X-T2 and X-T4?

You should consider the X-S20 imo.
I second that recommendation. I went from the X-T2 to the X-S10 and the better grip is a game changer for improved handling with any lens, but especially so with longer or heavier lenses. The integrated grip of the X-S10/20 is a lighter and better solution than the add-on grips for the cameras that lack a useful grip.

Got cramp in my hand for a day after using XT2 with 55-200 lens. Did not seem as intuitive as little Olympus OMD-10 purchased for wildlife shots with 70-300 lens . But that little camera had some limitations and they were coming out with version 2 with more IBIS so sold it. Also XT4 just seemed too large although I purchased it for its classic look and build. Perhaps sold it too soon?

I make frequent use of the 70-300 lense. Most* of my keepers with the 70-300 involve some amount of cropping, which I am at liberty to do without loss of sharpness because I have an X-T5 40MP sensor.

To me, given how overpriced used Fuji bodies are, it would be a big mistake to buy an older model with the 24 or 26MP sensor if planning specifically to pair with the 70-300. You can get an X-T5 brand new for just a few hundred dollars more than some of the older models being recommended here (even used!). Get one of the 40MP bodies and thank yourself later.

I'm a little confused by this and your first post. You had a cramp from it being too small, too large, or wrong grip shape? I think you're talking about the XT2 and XT4 being too big? Guess I'm a bit confused.

Either way, would mention that the X-T5 is probably still worth a look as it did come down slightly in size (at least compared to the X-T4). If the grip is awkward, Fuji has an add-on grip that is very slim (although expensive) and adds a nice extra bit of depth- with bonus of tripod mount along the entire bottom of the plate. SmallRig also makes a couple different styles/sizes, and there are many more out there.

Other, newer, but smaller Fuji bodies you might consider as mentioned would be X-T50 or X-S20 depending on your preferred style. Can you rent before buying?

Hello Matt,

The cramp on the XT2 resulted from the right lower corner of the body digging into the palm of my hand while photographing BIF for a few hours. This might have been avoided with a third-party grip. I did get a wonderful shot of a Blackiston's Fish Owl at night with 25K ISO in Japan with the XT2 so no complaints on that camera.

Today I think your advice is sensible. I will rent the XT5 and XS20 to see what fits my need the best.

Ciao!

I have a Small Rig hand grip on my X-T5s. It really helps a lot with medium to larger lenses. Not necessary for smaller/lighter ones.

Looking good, Ed.
Thanks, BTW this is done Hand held no tripod or monopod. The lens is not that big and NOT heavy. T5 has a nice grip , I never buy bulky add on grips

I use mine with XT5.
