I have RTX2070 Super card which has been fine in the past but find with Topaz, Adobe Denoize etc it is starting to creak a bit.

Not interested in gaming performance but would RTX 4070 Super Ti give meaningful gains or is it overkill in terms of performance.

Current motherboard is gigabyte gaming x570 x, AMD Ryzen 7 3700x and 32gb ram.

I will look to update processor and motherboard over time.

Alternatively, I have been looking M4 mac mini pro but don't really have any experience with them and not sure how well they run topaz software etc.

Have you tried to install the Nvidia Studio Drivers ? The Topaz AI site seems to be recommending them, right after saying that RTX 20 or higher are the recommended GPU to use their software.

Thanks for reply. Yes have latest drivers installed. I think it is the files that I am using as well which are A1 a7r v that pushing machine to limit. It is not a terrible performance but when using a number of files it adds up when as it is taking longer.

For the newer "AI" software, I wouldn't consider the RTX 4070-class cards to be overkill; that sounds like a good choice from what I've read. Look up the power needs for the card of your choice to make sure your power supply is able to support it.

For Mac info you should post to the Mac Talk forum; this forum is for PC discussions.

The 4070 ti super would be a major upgrade over a 2070 super.

To muddy the waters, the 5000 series is to be released at CES in January 2025. Those cards are supposed to offer higher performance with the same or lower electrical power use. I doubt that cards will be available at anything near MSRP for a while, though.

My old 1070ti has been creaking a LOT.

Yes, I think the 4070ti Super would be a great choice. So much so that the FedEx man is bringing me one in the next few hours :-)

It'll be a bit before I can provide real feedback since I'm also replacing my CPU, motherboard and RAM and family obligations over the holidays may mean I'm not done until the new year.

But I think you are definitely looking at the right ballpark.

Leave the 4080/4090 to the gamers and those with honking great PSUs (and budgets).

Take a look at this Tom's Hardware GPU rankings . I am using the 3070TI which does not give up much performance to the 4070TI. LrC denoise times are about 11 seconds for 45MP Nikon Z 9 files.

At Newegg, new 3070 ti cards start at over $600. ($350 for refurbs.) 4070 ti super, over $800.

I don't know whether the 16GB in the 4070 ti super would make it worthwhile over the 8GB 3070 ti.

AN RTX 3060 or 4060 would probably be enough for you, no need to pay extra for ti versions.

"dwjnic" is looking for an upgrade over an RTX 2070.

Neither a 3060 nor 4060 is a worthwhile upgrade. That's not to say they're bad cards. The 2070 is a pretty good one.

Thinking about it based on past upgrades is RTX 5060 likely to be equivalent or close to RTX 4070. Maybe worth waiting as some suggest until the New Year to see what is announced.

I wonder how long it'll be before RTX 5000 series cards are available, at anything close to MSRP?

Maybe the add-in-card makers will surprise me, and something will be available in January.

But, if I had to bet, months hence.

I made a mistake, I actually have a 2080 Super rather than 2070 version. Probably does not make much difference as to whether an upgrade will be worth it.

A 4060 might be a slight downgrade over a 2080 super.

If you buy a 4070 ti super today, there is at least a slight risk that you'd suffer buyer's remorse in a few months if the forthcoming 5000 series cards offer a better price/performance ratio.

Based on the past, introduction of the new cards may not lead to immediate major price drops of the 4000 series.

There was really good deal on desktop with fast processor, ddr5 ram and rtx 4080 with 5 year warranty so rather than replace parts of my existing desktop piecemeal I have decided to update everything at once. It is probably more than I need just for topaz, dxo etc for photos but I do music as well as more video editing so hopefully will be fairly future proofed for a few years.

I was not certain that you would notice a great difference with your initial post with the RTX 4070 Super Ti, but you will notice a difference with you new PC.

You may not wish to say, but what was that "really good deal"?

Looking at newegg, RTX 4080 cards seem to start at about $900US retail.
