If you're concerned about price I'd skip that. This is going to sound like a weird recommendation but look into the Dell G2724D. It's technically a gaming monitor but in terms of performance it performs better than the Asus 27 ProArt that was a solid budget pick before. Some very helpful and instructive comments here, thankyou all. I couldn't find any worthwhile Black Friday deals here in the UK so the pressure is off a little. I'll make the final decision in a week or two so that I have time over the xmas break to get set up. Looking for a secondhand 27" Apple Studio monitor at the moment...
I just looked at it VS the Apple Studio Display and while you do lose half the resolution 1440P is still pretty decent and MacOS likes it. Otherwise the Studio Display is brighter/handles reflections better but the Dell has better contrast and on the other important stats they are pretty close. And importantly in the UK it's only £184.99.

I also have a 5k iMac and while I love that screen (which is really close to the studio display) most of my editing is happening on the Dell right now.
