Have any of you compared these two lenses head to head on apsc?

I already own the Sony pancake but I shoot both an a6600 and an a7r iii. Having a full frame 20mm prime that’s small wouldn’t be a bad option. I’m curious how good it is on the a6600 as well.

I have used the Viltrox 20/2.8 on my A6600. I have no experience with the Sony.

However, the Viltrox is quite soft at f2.8 and a bit better on f4. It really starts to get acceptably sharp at f5.6. Colours are nice and contrast is good. I did not notice any distortion nor any flare.

Attached are a few flower shots I took today under nice light conditions between heavy rain downpours . These shots are original untouched JPEG images

I'll send 3 more of Maya the Beagle so you can also compare shots with an animal and eye focus

A few shots of Maya the Beagle at f2.8, f4 and f6.3. I am not sure what I did with the f5.6 photos.

Seeing the results and considering how enthusiastic I am about the great results with the Viltrox 27/1.2 and 75/1.2 I cannot recommend purchasing this lens. It was inexpensive enough that the purchase did not bother me. However it will certainly not replace my using the Zony 24/1.8 which really produces great images.

Thank you. Very helpful.

FWIW I found the Viltrox is a little bit better for extreme peeping @ f/8. But that's not necessarily saying much; the Sony pancake isn't my favorite for IQ.

One makes the camera jacket pocketable, the other makes for a pretty decent UWA on full frame, costs very little and isn't too terribly big or heavy.

You can probably guess which one of the two I'm keeping. (I probably won't use the Viltrox the much on APS-C, though; I'm not very partial to the 30mm FoV.)

Based on my experience and the photos I posted the Viltrox is very soft at f2.8. However, wide angle lenses are probably most likely used stopped down to 5.6 and beyond. The Vltrox was "acceptable" at f4 and good from f5.6 on. Better to shoot above f6.3
