Hi. I have Z6 and 300mm PF. I lost FTZ somewhere on my last travel and now I have an upcoming travel, where I wish to use 300mm with Z6.

At some point, I will sell 300mm as I would like to switch completely into Z system, then will have to sell FTZ too. So I don't want to spend $249+tax on FTZ and looking for used, nice copy. Considering that I will sell it, does it make any difference, if I buy FTZ or FTZ-ii ?

Except that stubby bottom, is there any difference in them ?

Thanks

The 300PF can be used with a tripod collar, but its a separate purchase. I used it generally without tripod. It is a lightweight choice.

Unless you have a need for the foot (such as a large wide angle lens that doesn't have its own foot) I would get the FTZ II. More comfortable to hold with shorter lenses.

You could go third party (Viltrox has an equivalent "FTZ I" for about $130, or you can find used OEM ones for about the same price). If you don't plan on having F-mount lenses for long, then maybe an FTZ I makes sense (although it's nice to keep the FTZ around even if you don't have any F-mount lenses, for the times where you might rent or borrow something, or if you come across an interesting F-mount lens).

Agreed - when I owned the 300 PF I used a Chinese not very smooth £30 knock off as the Nikon accessory collar was about £200.

As far as I can see the FTZ i and ii have the same functionality apart from the external design around the tripod mount. I have 2 FTZ i type which have both worked without problems with a variety of Nikon Z cameras and F mount lenses. I guess a used FTZ ii will sell for more, but then it will cost more to buy.

I have both but unless I am using the adapter on my Z9 then I am forced to have the version 2, , I always use the older version, because it has the tripod foot, i shoot my landscape pic on tripod like 99% of the time so I like mount it on the adapter instead of the camera body, I use DSLR lenses Sigma 14 1.8, Sigma 40 F1.4, Zeiss Milvus 85, Milvus 135......those are pretty " big" lens without its own tripod collar, with the adapter added, I prefer the adapter has its own tripod mounting.

I don't notice there is any difference in terms of performance between the original and version II.

For the 300 PF, you can use the same Nikon tripod collar they made for the older 70-200F4, or you can get a replacement from eBay or Amazon for fraction of the price if you are super picky about look and feel and " workmanship" related stuff, I use a RRS version on mine but really I have friend using a $40 one from eBay and it does the same job without any issue.
