What is this? And how does it compare to bench test with i7-13700K.

I'd like to learn more about this new beast.

Thanks.

EVO is just a marketing label that means a laptop conforms to certain specifications so it gets a shiny sticker. Bling for laptops. There are lots of better specced laptops that don't have the shiny EVO sticker.

The earlier version was called Centrino.

Intel uses the same i/Utra branding for laptop and desktop CPUs but the laptop and desktop CPUs are quite different. Very confusing for people who are sane enough not to want to dive deeper than the marketing labels.

AMD uses labelling for its laptop CPUs that even they don't understand.

Desktop CPUs eat way more electricity, have better cooling, generally have more things like cache internally, and so are usually way faster, at least in software tests. Whether the user could tell if they were using a laptop or desktop doing a blinded test siting in front of a monitor may be one reason why Apple does not sell desktops any more.

i did some searches...note that to meet Evo standards, the laptop is tested, not just the CPU. big difference!!

I didn't spend much time vetting the sources (thus no URL links) so buy beware! lol

What is special about Evo?

Intel® Evo™ laptops are a specific category of laptops that meet Intel's rigorous standards for performance, responsiveness, battery life, and design. These laptops are powered by Intel® processors and are optimized for productivity, mobility, and seamless user experience.

What is the difference between EVO i7 and i7?

Both the i7evo and i7 have same performance the difference is that the Evo platform laptops are more light weight, and a bit faster as it uses intel xe graphics and goes through a rigorous testing to qualify as an Evo laptop.

How long does an Intel Evo laptop last?

9.5 or more hours of real-world battery life on laptops with full HD display.

It's a "certification" for meeting certain specs. And this current Evo, if I'm not mistaken, guarantees 8hrs of use on a single full charge in a "typical normal" use scenario within specific speed.

Thanks, good post. Except I wonder about the last phrase? Apple sells Mac Mini and Mac Studio, desktop machines without a monitor.

Alex, we bought an Intel EVO machine, an LG Gram 17 for $1500. We didn't like it and couldn't give it away. A similar model now sells for $999 with Intel Core i7-1360P, 16GB memory, 1TB storage. Here are performance comparisons:
  • i7-1360P, Passmark = 19,290
  • i7-13700K, Passmark = 46,501
I would not recommend an EVO laptop for photography work. They are designed to be thin and light. They almost always come without discrete GPU, so are relatively slow for noise reduction and AI/ML enhancement.
