After ordering my used ZV-1 i ordered a Smallrig cage with wooden handle for it, also used. I figure the wooden grip would be nice and would also provide some protection for the camera, in case i might drop it for example. Not sure if i'm going to like it, but it's worth a try.

There are other cases that go around the body, however the back side is not protected so i didn't bother with one of those.

I think having a metal camera "armor" type case would have been a welcomed accesory for these cameras and the rx100 lineup, along with the abandoned "drop sensor" only used in the rx100 M1(which I tested and works as intended).

I remember the horror i felt when i dropped my ex rx100 M7, there was some damage despite the fact that the camera was inside a padded pouch! The most obvious damage was to the EVF, it wouldn't sit flush with the top plate anymore, also the metal piece behind the screen, where the lcd ribbon is, came off, but i was able to put it back.

Came across a reviewer who boasted the M7's "magnesium alloy body" as if he was discussing the new Abrams tank.

Don't be fooled by any "magnesium" in the description(besides, i think it's very thin aluminium in the rx100 series, not magnesium), whether it's plastic or metal, the cameras themselves are fragile.

I was actually thinking of conducting a drop test between my metal rx100 m1 and my ZV-1 once i get my hands on, anybody interested to see which camera gets damaged quicker? I imagine the plastic case will handle the drop better.

Nobody's done this before, so might as well.

No add-ons for me.

The whole idea of a small camera is to keep it small.

If I needed a big camera then I would buy a big camera.

Edit: Plus I do not drop cameras, accidentally or otherwise, they are not designed for that.

That could happen, once i fell with my DSLR in the bag, i fell over it and over my dog, but my HX50 took the brunt of the fall, I had it in my hand I was shooting with it, the lens and the front element was full of dirt, i took out as much as i could but some got in, and the lens got a dent and misaligned.

Two years ago, when in vacations, i fell again, i was in a trail, it was so fast, one moment i was walking with my DSLR in the "rest" position , in the second after i was in the ground. Luckily, i protected the cam instinctively, like, muscle memory kind of stuff, i busted my right knee against a rock, first thing i checked was my cam and lens.

I didn't broke nothing, again, luck, i spent a couple of days after with a cane, anti inflammatory, and doing ice after a trip to the hospital. All because i had the wrong type of shoes at the time of the fall.

Since then i don't leave nothing to chance.

I bought two leather cases, one for my HX-50 and other for my HX-99

G5x don't has a case, only the G1X perhaps will be better than nothing.

Yeah, it makes it bigger but now i don't know if my HX-50 can be saved ( lack of parts).

I already gave green light to the quotation they gave to me to fix it, but it's taking a long time to get, it's done, you can come and get it.

If they won't be able to fix it for whatever reason, i will buy another HX-50

Please, don't.

Instead take care of your gear.

Aluminium, plastic, Magnesium, who cares?

That will lead you to nothing but to potential loss

Any gear just with basic care will outlive you and me, even with minor and accidental drops, the normal wear and tear will suffice.

Is this enough for you?
