hi all,

i have been using Zenfolio for my client photo links. i don't use it as a website but rather simple photo links for clients to drill down on their selects.

sadly Zenfolio has gone to poopoo. basically all of your somewhat older photo links end up getting "archived". this makes them "unavailable" for viewing until you "un-archive" those specific photo links. i have hundreds of photo links and most are now archived. now if you could un-archive and retrieve quickly i would be ok with that but...it can take days and even worst 80% of the attempts at un-archiving NEVER gets back to a working link.

out of about 36 links i attempted to retrieve about 6 worked. the rest never un-archived. in other words...LOST forever.

i'm looking for alternative site to host my links. i'm not looking for a website only photo link usage that are "private". i typically have up to 1,000 photos on a given link. i would like be able to open up the option to let clients order prints or other merch.

are there any of these kind of sites that DO NOT ARCHIVE? that feature does not work for me.

thanks!

david

A couple months ago I canceled my Zenfolio account effective when the current year expired, which is today. Yesterday they sent me an email offering to cut my rate in half if I stay. That would bring my rate from $43 down to $21.50 per year! (Old grandfathered price!)

But I am not going to do it. My Adobe portfolio is good enough and it is free with my Adobe subscription.

Just passed on for your amusement.

The key seems to be frequent emails to support, because often it seems the engineers (I use the term loosely) are required to work out the kinks.

Was your site on the "classic" platform or the new platform they phased in a couple of years ago? Mine are on "classic", and I'm considering moving to the new platform. I wonder if "classic" might be more prone to glitches at this point.

This is new info to me, but it seems a lot of users are leaving. I see why now, cost aside. For me just starting out in the last 6mo, I'll assume I'm in the new design format. So far, the system works well for me, having low volume, I can create a gallery off my website, add invitees, give them access to their shots and restrict login security via a link or set username/PW, etc. I like it. I can see where the archived links would be a problem for sure. I'll have to look at that and see how it ties into my galleries with the website; I believe I can make the galleries public-facing in time, should I choose... all good info to learn from those before me ;)

I really had no complaints with Zenfolio. It was simply that the free (with LR/PS subscription) Adobe Portfolio suffices for my needs.

I do miss the automatic slideshow on my Zenfolio home page, and Zenfolio seems more straightforward and flexible in customization, but Portfolio's performance is far snappier than Zenfolio's.
