X-T5 Overexposes in AF-C

There is way too little information here to answer what happened in that instant. Fuji cameras don't have a exposure problem in AF-C, AF-S, or manual focus.

Two things come to mind:

- The photographer had his camera set for Natural Live View - On. This is the opposite of what one wants as Off previews what will be recorded

- Some other photographer related issue such as failing to understand how to use EV Compensation, the effect of the metering mode, for example spot, ...

Just to balance the usual "Fuji cameras have no problem, your are the problem".

I also have this issue with X-T5.

It's even mentioned in the firmware update 5.00 point 4 for the H2-S which also had this problem. As I remember the fix helped, but did not solve the issue.

As said in the firmware details, the pictures themselves are fine, but the image in the evf appear overexposed.

Don't know of a definitive fix yet....

I have the XT5 and 16-55 along with other lenses and have never experienced this. You should post the photo in question so we can look at the exif data. Also other setting info would be helpful. Auto ISO? Shutter and aperture settings. Shutter type? As Morris asked Natural Live View on? You want it off.

I have seen something like this, but I'm not sure if it's the same as what you're experiencing or something different. I can check later (camera isn't handy at the moment). Out of curiosity, are you using any of the DR/DR-P settings? Or are they fixed at DR100/DR-P OFF?

Hi all

Does this issue happend to all X-T5 ?

Any solution ?

What firmware are you on because this was fixed in 1.04...the current version is v4...

https://fujifilm-x.com/en-ca/support/download/firmware/cameras/x-t5/

"Revised specification from Ver.1.03 to Ver.1.04
  1. ...
  2. The firmware bug has been fixed, which caused that the brightness of the preview image in the EVF was changing dramatically depending on the brightness of the subject while half pushing the shutter button by setting “FOCUS MODE” to “AF-C”."

I have heard of people downgrading back to v1 firmware because they feel that AF-C tracking in video was better in the older firmware...are you one of those people?

If somone is running ancient firmware, they should upgrade.

That's the answer for the OP if this was the cause.

That’s a legitimate question. Your answer is not helpful. You could have said Fujifilm doesn’t provide a way to do it

You clearly understood my answer. Possibly the person asking would not so I'll consider this in the future.

Tank you for pointing this out.

I take no responsibility for this - you do this at your own risk.

Playing with Hex values and changing the file name.

my question was just out of curiosity as I didn’t think it was possible

the post I responded to seem to imply it was common practice.

Im very happy with the performance of my XT5 and X100VI have no intention of messing around with old software versions.

cheers

Hey guys,

I’m the photographer in question. McWoodley was just so kind to forward my question to you. And thank you very much @RobertMachin for not assuming I’m just dumb :)

First of all: No natural view mode. No funny DR-settings. Multi-metering (in fact, metering doesn’t make a difference here). Latest OS 4 and latest lens Software.
I’m using an XT5 with a 16–55 2.8.
The issue does not affect the taken image, it’s only on screen. Not the EVF, just the display and only when using AF-C.

I payed a visit to our local Fuji store today and in fact they have no idea what this is but we discovered their own XT5 has the same issue. They also had the latest firmware and the same lens and we also did a general reset of both cameras. No difference.
Our conclusion was that it must be a software based exposure compensation of Fujifilm to guarantee a working continuous autofocus but I’m about to reach out to the Fujifilm customer service to ask them directly.

The one thing that comes to mind for me, which frequently causes this is face detect. Photometry changes dramatically to meter off a face when it is detected. This frequently causes over exposure..and is a nuisance IMHO.
