It's firefly season, so I just thought I'd share some of my friends with you.

 Dark Firefly, Pyropyga nigricans

Dark firefly - This is the only way to see both of his eyes.

Murky Flash-train. His lightbulb is at the back end of his abdomen.

And every evening they have a mating party in the field.

These are long exposures, as I was playing with Live Comp mode.

Lovely.

Are they the synchronized type?

The term "mirrorless" is totally obsolete. It's time we call out EVIL for what it is. (Or, if you can't handle "Electronic Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens" then Frenchify it and call it "LIVE" for "Lens Interchangeable, Viewfinder Electronic" or "Viseur électronique").

wow, really nice pics and an interesting bug

your challenge for tonight is to get a close up / macro of a flashing one :)

the closest i've seen to that in the UK was a single glowworm... and when i saw a glow in the garden at midnight i assumed i was seeing things, especially when i went out with a torch and didnt see anything

These are some great shots. I haven`t seen one in decades but I don`t go to the country as much either.

It is one of the things I miss from my years in Texas. They are common there.

There are some in Australia but I hardly ever see any.
