While turning off the digital zoom feature on my D-40 all the controls on the camera suddenly locked up. The camera was "on" when I was turning the digital zoom "off". None of the controls will work including trying to turn it off by moving the slide. Also the zoom does not work nor can I take a picture and none of the functions controlled by the buttons on the back of the camera work. So then I did the only thing possible, opened the battery door and immediately the camera turned off, but the lens remained extended and now it won't turn on when the battery door is closed.
The batteries were fully charged and trying another set of batteries did not work. When I close the door the two LED lights blink for a second and the digital display on the top of the camera does come on for a minute or more but then it too goes blank.
I am sure that this will require a trip to the Olympus repair shop but before I do that perhaps someone out there knows of an in home fix.
Also would like to know if anyone else has had this problem and how it was fixed and its cost.
