I haven't got a chance to use it since the common kestrel last October, and my diagnosis of cataract is also a reason to sell it (the latest development on this matter is that I checked my blood suger level on January 1 and it's the most normal - the middle value of the normal range).

So I put my P1000 and accessories on China's largest online second-hand market Xianyu (literally "idle fish"). The lowest price of a new P1000 in China is 6999 yuan, while I bought mine for 6100. Good time to make some good money! I intend to buy an S23 Ultra whose 200MP mode I envy and 10x camera I need.

p.s. Some S21 Ultra 108MP shots and panoramas I took during recent trips to the Yangtze River at Jiangyin, Jiangsu, China:

How much is the S23 Ultra?

Is the 10x zoom a real optical zoom lens?

How large is the sensor to pack in 200 million pixels?

In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.

Lowest price seems to be 8599 yuan (12+512 Black). If I can sell my P1000 for 6000 and two Hoya protective filters for an additional 500, I can easily make up for the rest as I have a daily allowance of 140 yuan and I only eat one diet in the morning and minor supplementary drinks and food in the rest of the day (Iike I only spend 40 yuan a day).
Is the 10x zoom a real optical zoom lens?
Yes, although in S22U and S23U the 3x and 10x sensors have shrunken a little from that of the S21U. In S24U, the 10x camera has been canceled entirely. Specs:
How large is the sensor to pack in 200 million pixels?
1/1.3". See the S23 Ultra's specs above.

Nice, it sounds like the sensor is better/larger than the one in our bridge cameras.

So the 100 MP are "real" and not the result of pixel shift or some other processing?

You will enjoy the s23ultra , it’s a fun camera .
I’ve still not got around to testing the 200mp but the 10 times at 12mp is pretty good too

why arent digital camera companies putting these sensors in their cameras?

instead of the same old 1/2.3 or 1"

It's OK. The two images received by my left and right eyes don't blend into a single one in my brain (binocularity) due to childhood strabismus, and my brain likes to choose the right eye's image, so even though my left eye has only 0.5+ vision (on a 0 to 2.0 scale) due to cataract, my right eye still has 0.8 which is enough for daily life.

Cost vs sales .

samgsung sold 12.6 million s23 ultras last time I checked and it was forecasting 15millions by the end of 2023 .

compare that to these figures

Hope those issues with your eye will settle down, BC.

Very nice of you to tell us that you are now focusing, pun intended, on phone photography.

Those Kingfishers taken with your P1000 will remain as your legacy on this forum.

The S23 ultra is a great phone camera and surely hope that your plan to finance it would work out.

who knew people were this interesting in making phone calls lol.

I came from an era where we built our own computers and were laughed at for being "nerds"-- it now seems that everyone uses these products that nerds built (except smart phones are dumbed down versions of computers-- there's a lot you can't do on them that you can do on a real computer like 3D graphics and surround sound.)

Where as my phone and iPad Pro mean I no longer need a huge computer desk , chair or monitors and keyboard.

I use phone for work , photography, social media , surfing the net . It links to my wireless printer to print documents etc . Don’t even need to carry my bank cards anymore.

Don’t even have a huge hifi system anymore as phone/ipad connect wirelessly to a speaker and amp system that’s much smaller , still gives me a quality output I’m happy with and all my music is stored in my phones music library and all backed up to the cloud.

dont know if you realise but that bird photo is actually 30 times zoom so 690mm equivalent.

But is it actual optical zoom?

Some of us still need desktop computers because we need large amounts of video memory (I have a 16 GB video card), and I'm so used to having a real keyboard (with LED lights no less lol).

I wonder if the prices are comparable, the parts I built my computer for cost a total of just under $2000.

My phone and iPad cost roughly the same but due to being on contract through work I don’t miss the money as it’s just what I call beer money , I literally have to work an extra hour a week to cover it . Once the contract is up I can either keep them and just continue to pay the sim price which is a mere £9 pm for unlimited data, calls and text or I can trade them in against the latest and greatest to keep up with the latest tech

But when you sell a used Japanese camera, you often earn more than the price you paid for it. My sold Canon SX740 HS is an example, and it seems my P1000 is going to be an example too.

I can still be relevant to this forum as I still own an A1000.

Those P1000 bird photos are lovely indeed, but I have to say I'm not a birding enthusiast. I bought a P900 (and then upgraded it to a P1000) for photographing international airliners at Shanghai Pudong International Airport as I aspire to be a world citizen. Plane spotting is my true enthusiasm in photography. My ZS220D with its 1" sensor seems to be a better candidate for photoing taxiing planes.

I am sure that you'll reach for your A1000 at times for longer zoom.
My ZS220D with its 1" sensor seems to be a better candidate for photoing taxiing planes.
I understand that ZS220D has DFD autofocus, very close to the AF speed of PDAF in DSLR and the hybrid AF in Sony RX100 vii.
