I think this might be of interest to at least some of you, there is now a 3rd party LP-E12 with integrated USB-C charging. I'm so excited to not have to bring the external battery charger or a bunch of extra batteries just to make sure my M200 stays juiced.

Well you're going to need one extra battery. So you can keep shooting while you recharge this one; with a wall wart!

Thanx for bringing this to attention!

Might have to pick one up as well. Wasabi is a pretty reliable company right? I don't want to risk burning my house down. lol.

Haha, yes. precautions required for the first few charges. In a pan, on the cooker hob, with the extractor fan running perhaps? :-)

I don't see how this is any advantage to ME. Any way you look at it you need a power source and I would rather carry an extra battery than a power source. Of course if you plan to be away from civilization and do carry a power source , it would eliminate the wasabi charger which also charges from a usb -c cabled power source. I suppose I'm never in that type of situation.

Yes, you still need a power source, but it is the same power source that you would already have for charging your phone. Personally, I already travel with just a multi-port USB charger and a few cables to charge everything from earbuds, phone, tablet, camera, and/or laptop. With my current setup, I could charge 5 of these batteries at the same time with no extra hardware.

This battery looks like a really nice option for all of the M series cameras that lack USB charging.

Yes. USB charging isn't a checkbox when choosing a camera anymore for me. And if the OEM battery dies I will never buy a Canon one again and carry that brick (charger) and that thick bulky cord. These charger free batteries can be recharged everywhere, with a TV, laptop, in a car and... and of course with the phone chargers that usually are tied to people.

But tbh I don't dare to charge mine (a DBK one) with my new fast (high current) phone charger. I use my old phone's 1.5A charger. Maybe it is OK, buy I don't know for sure. Does anyone know is it safe?

(And I've heard somewhere about swollen and stuck in the camera batteries.)

High power chargers (PD - Power Delivery) will only output higher power levels when they receive the correct communication signals from the device to be charged. This also requires using the correct cable that will handle these signals and power levels. Absent this communication, the charger will dumb down to more typical USB levels.

You eased my mind. Thank you very much!

Nice. Wasabi has been supplying great 3rd party batts for years! No issues with mine.

They also make this in an LP-E17...

Alright so I ended up ordering this and it came in today. Took 20mins to charge from the USB port on my laptop (no idea of battery level it came with).

One thing I noticed is it fits tighter than the original battery. Makes it kinda annoying inserting and removing the battery. The battery doesn't look swollen. Is this normal with Wasabi and aftermarket batteries?

A lot of battery manuf try to maximize the capacity of their batteries, so it doesn't surprise me that they're packing a lot in. This batt has the "disadvantage" of having extra circuitry added internally on top of that. I haven't had any fit issues with my existing 3rd party LP-E17 batts (incl Wasabi), but this is a new design.

You'll have to keep an eye on it and see if it gets any tighter (be sure to report back!) ;-)

I'm going to shoot them an email and see what they say. I'm surprised no one else got one? Did anyone on the RF section get one (obviously a different version)?

Unfortunately I couldn't put it through it's paces and test it. I only recordered a 30min 1080 video and it didn't drop a bar. Not really a test though since the stock battery can do what, 2hrs of 1080 and probably wouldn't drop after 30mins either.

I got one as well and am happy with it. It charges with USB-C PD chargers, whereas some USB-C devices only seem to charge from USB-A ports with A to C cables.

The only minor complaint I could say is that the charging port is ever so slightly misaligned with the battery case opening so the charging plug goes in kind of tightly. Ultimately though, it all works and I don't have to think ahead to bring a separate battery charger or extra batteries to enjoy my M200!

Does yours fit tighter in the M200 battery compartment compared to the OEM battery?

Slightly tighter, but not enough to be an issue or even bother me.

This would be very useful to me as I am backpacking at the minute, and every bit of weight counts.

I did actually have this idea a while ago myself. All batteries over a certain size should probably integrate usb-c charging.
