I don't think it's true.

There is strong competition of small vlog camera. Due to the low selling figure of G100, I don't think G100 II is Panasonic top priority.

If in fact it has a newer 25mp sensor, hopefully it will be the one from the G9II, with its reportedly improved dynamic range, and not the sensor from the GH6.

I suppose this brings the question of processor onto the table.

I might be a buyer for this, as a light weight companion to the G9II.

It was slow selling because it was marketed as a vlogging camera yet had slow AF, bad 4K crop and no IBIS. Those people that bought it as a small photo camera loved it. So if they can fix the above issues it will be the small form factor MFT camera that people have been clamoriing for . Keep in mind its even smaller than a GX9.

Ever since the price dropped the G100 seems to be selling decent. And the vlogging kit is the most popular. I don't really get how they marketed it as a vlogging cam with the crop and the missing IBIS but somehow it worked. If they offer a new version without crop, the new PDAF sensor and hopefully some stabilization, it would do good. Offer a bundle with the 9mm and they have a winner.

For my photo-only use, I'd be happy without IBIS, especially if that made the camera any heavier or larger.

This is a translation from the Camerabeta feed that 43Rumors took its reporting from:

[Panasonic G100 subsequent models will be equipped with phase focusing!] The new machine is temporarily called G100 Mark II, which will be equipped with the same sensor as G9 Mark II. Natural phase focusing is also to be arranged. It supports 60 frames of 4K 4:2:2 10-Bit video shooting and single card slot design.

If the rumors are true, the new machine will be a new choice for Vlogger.

PDAF should make video AF tracking on a G100 II more competitive with it's vlogging rivals. Or perhaps it may turn out to be a G90 mkII.

(and I could be wrong, but...)

That it will NOT have the G9II sensor. I would bet that it will have one of the 20MP M43 sensors that already exist with PDAF.

As to IBIS? Very useful for a vlogging camera, but who knows whether they will implement that or not.

The rest of the form factor I expect to be pretty much the same....

And, yes, this explains the fire sale prices on the G100 lately (and maybe the G95).

One of the most popular and affordable vlog cameras is the Canon EOS M series, specifically the EOS M50 Mark I and M50 Mark II. Since Canon had discontinued it, that leaves Sony. So I can see the Panasonic G100 Mark II as its EOS replacement. Since Panasonic is very strong in video, it's only natural to take the place of Canon in that market segment.

Despite the G100 being a capable camera, the main reason it didn't sell well is because it WAS competing against the Canon EOS M50 Mark II, which is still the best selling consumer budget vlog kit despite having similar specs, except maybe the Canon having a 24MP APS-C sensor and the G100 with its 20MP MFT sensor. The consumer only sees size, so there is no contest. I also think the G100 came out slightly more expensive. Both cameras do not have built-in IBIS. It was never a problem selling the M50 Mark II without IBIS.

To be competitive, the new G100 Mark II needs to have a 25MP sensor with Phase Detect and needs to have the dual boost DR feature of the G9 Mark II to take the Canon EOS M50 Mark II's place in the market. At least, get Canon people to upgrade to the G100 Mark II, rather than to the R Series cameras, which is bigger. Since most Lumix lenses are stabilized, it makes sense to produce a G100 Mark II.

The second camera, however, could probably be the S1 Mark II with phase detect, a hi-res version of the S5 Mark II. The GH7 seemed to be too soon to be released, but who knows.

It was also competing with Panasonic's own G80/G85, which has IBIS.

It's not usually a problem selling a camera with Canon written on the front of it!

I think it just needs IBIS and PDAF to make it more competitive.

Are any Lumix G wide angle prime lenses stabilised?

Perhaps you are unaware that in the Vlog world, there isn't the need for IBIS, because most vloggers use predominantly DJI "GIMBALS", which has their own advanced stabilization algorithm and when used in conjunction with the DJI Raven Eye eye tracking system that's compatible with the DJI Ronin and RS 2 series, it tracks the subject matter and provides the best smoothest stabilization ever.

So it doesn't really matter if the camera has IBIS or not, the DJI gimbals are camera agnostic and vloggers use it, because you can control the camera functions with compatible cameras and you have a hand holder plus tripod base with it. For example, you can use a DJI RS 3 Mini with the EOS M50 Mark 1 and Mark 2 (as it is compatible with these), but not the G100.

That it will NOT have the G9II sensor. I would bet that it will have one of the 20MP M43 sensors that already exist with PDAF.
Why?

You mean one of the PDAF-layouts customized for Olympus?

IMHO, this would be a dead marketing strategy. This would also against Panasonic's recent policy: for video the cheaper S5 MK II is in many ways better than S1H, and for video G9 II is in many ways better than GH6. Panasonic is not protecting their markets (and I like it!).

To me it seems Panasonic will continue with three Micro Four Thirds models: GH-line, G9-line, and "G100-line". G100 will probably merge G100 with G90. There's no reason why they would use the same 6+ year old sensors in these. They should maximize the value for money, because these cameras are not direct competitors to GH- or G9 -lines.

Sorry but if no IBIS then no interest.....
There's a lot of people wanting Panasonic to update the GX line. Especially now we have the 25 megapixel sensor. Will the G100ii be that camera? I know Panasonic did discuss almost themselves what future Lumix cameras would require a PDAF. Does that hint a possible future GX camera?

43 Rumors – Panasonic and Olympus Digital Camera News

If only it had IBIS....43 rumors - might get it to replace my Gx85..

If there is a new G100II and a Gh7, Pany then has the market pretty well covered.
So we have a choice, but it is rather a big difference between G9II on one hand and this tiny cam otoh.

We know some specs, but who knows what else it does have in store for us?

A small cam, with a good EVF, very good sensor and probably OSPDAF autofocussing. Let's see how it all pans out, if this rumour is correct.

I hope so, but after they announced they are ditching customer camera lineup, even a G100 successor would make me happy.
