Lightroom Denoise AI actually makes noise much worse for me. Any ideas what could cause this?

First I have even heard of this. Without examples and describing your workflow it is pretty hard to determine what is going on.

Perhaps it's the order.

Order matters. I recommend applying Denoise early in the workflow, before healing and masking. AI-driven, image-based features such as Content-Aware Remove and Select Subject can be affected by noise, so it’s best to use those features on a clean starting point. If you do run Denoise on an image that already has Content-Aware Remove settings or AI masks, Denoise will automatically update those spots and masks. This is handy, but be aware that the content of those spots and masks may change unexpectedly, so it’s best to review the results carefully.

AI Denoise has trouble dealing with Pentax' and Ricoh's files. The issue has been acknowledged by Adobe.

OP has not responded. We don’t have any details on the issue. OP said it made it worse. So it is working, just not well. From that link I can’t tell if that is what the posters are saying or if it just does not work at all.
I see. The OP uses Pentax. Mystery solved. Thanks Emporio.

Why is that? Is Pentax not supported? Or?
I don't know. Emporio mentioned both Ricoh and Pentax. Ricoh bought out Pentax.

The OP still did not post examples. We know it is woking, just not well. Not sure if the posters in that link are having the same issues.

I wasn’t aware that Denoise didn’t work correctly with Pentax DNG files, that must be the problem. I did another comparison, starting with a DNG file shot at ISO 16,000 and with no preset applied and with zero sharpening or manual NR applied. In this case there was a very slight improvement, but nothing like it should be.

Thanks again for all the replies, the mystery is solved😀

I've used the Adobe AI Denoise with Pentax 645Z and, K-1ii files with success. But I shoot well below ISOs like that. I've seen other reports that it seems to be newer Pentax models (it won't do the K-3iii mono at all, but that doesn't have noise :)

I wonder if an non DNG Pentax raw would work?

Currently Adobe Denoise AI deos not work with any DNG files or any other format. Only RAW files. In that link I provided Adobe is working on it.

As of writing Lightroom Denoise does a fine job on my Leica DNG raw files, but does nothing with luminance noise on GR3 DNG raw files; both shot at ISO 1600. Lots of discussion about that over on the Adobe customer support pages. The Adobe guy claims that it's a file problem for Ricoh to address.

This is frustrating. Ricoh GRIii and GRIiix are AI Denoise immune. Coupled with the poor high ISO abilities of the cameras, this takes low light shots off the table. BTW, I really enjoy the GR series.

Come on, get this fixed!
