If you are looking for great on-camera audio at a great price I heartily recommend the Deity D4 Duo. I got them on sale for $42 ea. It is a dual capsule mic with options for Fr only or Fr/Rr for vlogging. They also have a 3.5mm input to add a LAV or wireless-mic as a source for the second channel. No batteries required.
Wait, what? I can plug two mics together, well that sounds like it could mean stereo.
I added a Smallrig twin arm cold shoe adapter and a 1/4x20 to cold shoe adapter.
For less than $100 I have a stereo mic that I can configure into ORTF, NOS, A/B and X/Y recording patterns. I use ORTF for most of my handheld shots as it nicely mimics human ear spacing and direction.
I've included a video clip from the OC Fair, earphones for maximum envelopment.
