Took a drive to Elliston, Newfoundland where there is a puffin colony that can be photographed from shore. Here's a few pics from the outing (xt5 + fuji 150-600). The equip combo had a bit more trouble AF'ing with these puffins than the gannets I assume because they are smaller and faster. Still got lots of keepers both static and in flight.

Hey, you're back. How did it go?

lots of puffins sitting outside their burrows

gotta be careful to pick your landing spot so you don't upset the neighbors

getting away from the commotion

A fresh caught caplin. You'll notice there are gulls in a few pics. Not only do they eat baby puffins, but they also steal whatever fish the pufin come in with. But the puffin is pretty crafty and bascially when they had food, they would land on the doorstep of their burrow and jump inside with the catch before the gulls had a chance to steal it.

gulls always the opportunists

All great shots - I'm impressed. As I said, all great shots, but this one is superb, my favourite, as it is taken against an unusual green background. Thanks for posting.

Some very nice shots here. They look too chubby to fly with those little wings.

Really impressive shots.... I've been out to the Isle of May a couple of times over the last few years to photograph these elusive little fellas, so know how small/fast they are👍

Thanks. Yeah I guess they are a kind of a hybrid wing and pectoral fin. I think they must burn a ton of energy when flying. A lot of rpm’s to keep them airborne.

Than you. I hope you get out again and look forward to seeing the pics!

Looks like you have the T5 singing.

It still misses more shots than I’d like it to but it’s much better than it was. I’d like to give the Xh2s a try but can’t justify it right now. Hopefully Fuji continues to improve the af in all its bodies.

Beautifully composed and well taken. Lovely work, and thanks so much for sharing it here.

They are very good underwater "fliers" and spend long time there catching the little fish that they keep in their beaks...

Great pictures by the way! Thanks for posting.
