I had to re-install Faststone and cannot find this option I had activated before.

Can't remember where to tick something to do the magic.

Today lost ... googling the wrong way

( I suppose )

I see no option in my version (7.5) of FastStone Image Viewer to specifically 'link' RAW and JPG files for those operations.

Did you mean FastRawViewer?

I really like FastStone for viewing jpgs and for resizing them or drawing on them. It's great for comparing two or three jpgs side-by-side too. It has batch renaming features too.

But for culling a photo session, FastRawViewer is fast and efficient.

In FastRawViewer:

To move raw+jpg together:

File-->Customize-->Preferences

File formats --> Handle raw+jpg together

~~~
And in FastRawVIewer, I have:
Keyboard shortcuts --> copy/move/reject --> Move current file to _Rejected subfolder --> Del.
So, to cull images:
I browse through the folder. There's a lot of tools, including brightening shadows, showing sharp focus areas, etc.
At the first Delete key, it creates a _Rejected subfolder.
The Delete key moves both the raw and the corresponding jpg to this subfolder. Ctl-Z "undo" restores the recent reject if I change my mind right away, or I can browse the rejected subfolder and move selections back to the main folder.
This is very fast and completely reversible. There's a menu selection to clear the rejects, or I can leave them until later.
That feature was introduced in version 7.7. To enable it go to Settings, select the RAW tab, put a tick in the RAW Filter box and click OK. When back in the Browser view hide RAW files by clicking on the Show/Hide RAW files icon on the toolbar. Open Settings again, select the RAW tab, put a tick in the Handle (rename, delete, copy, move) RAW+JPEG together box and click OK.
Really thanks!!
Couldn't remember... or find any way to make those settings appear 😲
  • Do (1) > [OK]
  • Toggle [R] button to hide raw
  • Now you can do (2) and (3) > [OK]
You're welcome :-D It's a bit quirky to set up but a great feature.
Thanks for the mention of the version upgrade. The FastStone software doesn't seem to check for updates.
THere's a lot of useful new features going from v 7.5 to the newer 7.7
No problem :). Yes there are some good new features, hiding raws and linking them to the corresponding jpgs has made culling so much easier for me.
