The last few pics I've uploaded lose the Exif data. Is there anything I can do to prevent that from happening?

Some of your photos have EXIF, what have you done differently with the photos that don't? Are you post processing the photos, if so, how?

Cheers,
Doug
OK I figured it out. I'm using GraphicConverter 12 to convert raw images to jpeg images. For some reason that converted image loses its Exif data in the upload process. I just uploaded a 5328 × 4000 jpeg image unedited from the SD card without losing its Exif data.

Thanks for the help everyone.

The EXIF data is not lost when you upload image files unless the software you are using deliberately removes it.

How are you uploading your pictures and with what software? I presume you are talking about JPEG images, not raw images.

I'm uploading them using the Upload to my gallery menu with the Mac Safari web browser (v 16.5.2) and yes I'm talking about jpeg images.

I use Safari, but not for uploading images. I wasn't aware Safari would do that.

Personally, I copy the images directly by plugging the memory card into my Mac and copying over the images I want. But I use raw images almost exclusively and use Lightroom to rename and process the images.

It may be worth posting to the Mac Talk forum as there may be people there who can help.

It's Safari but it's on the DPreview website that I upload images to. I don't see any other way to do it.

I'll ask in the Mac Talk Forum

Check the EXIF before the upload, if they are there, Safari stripped them. There might be something in Safari settings for stripping them out. Or you can try other we browsers.

If EXIF was already gone, one of your image software stripped them out.

Have you ever tried to use the following 2 keys provided by DPR to upload (embed) photo / video to the thread.

2e897cf46deb4a57a17ddf7d3393f464.jpg

Or as below to upload photos to My Gallery:

On my Chrome (running on Windows PC) the full EXIF data, no matter they will be displayed over the image or not, will be preserved. I don't think the browser or the OS will affect the above.

The pics prior to Nov 2021 have Exif data. The only post processing I'm doing is saving as jpeg with GraphicConverter 12.

Sorry, I thought you meant uploading images from your camera to your computer. I did not realise you meant uploading to this website.

You should have posted your query in the Site Feedback and Help forum.

I think that is extremely unlikely.

What has probably happened is that GraphicConverter has not included the EXIF when exporting the JPEG images. In Lightroom there is an option to either include the EXIF or not when exporting images (it is called metadata, not EXIF in Lightroom). GraphicConverter is probably similar.

The program might be removing the EXIF data for privacy reasons. Some photo processing programs/aps include this as an option.
