Hi

I just got the 8500 and went through the whole set up and proceeded to print a photo.

With Photoshop, I tried opening it there to print and the ICC profiles were all the same old ones. No Settings for the ET-8500.

I looked around and found nowhere to download them and what I did find usually said all the should be installed along with the installation of the other printer apps etc.

Much obliged if anyone can help.

It came out printed on the wrong side – i.e. the back non-glossy side on glossy paper.

I had put the paper on the back tray facing out.

I thought "odd, they want the glossy side facing in, ok"

So I tried it again putting the paper facing the other way (backward). same result.

So, I tried putting the paper in the bottom tray, facing up, and yes, it did the same thing, somehow printed on the back side.

So I stopped printing and wrote this post

That does sound quite strange. Maybe:

(1) you got the rare variant of the ET-8500 that requires double-sided photo paper (to be clear, that's a joke);

(2) the printer is set to some sort of double-sided printing option, and it's thinking, 'I need to flip the page over'; and/or

(3) you're running Mac OS and you got the AirPrint driver instead of the full driver, which is why it didn't install ICC profiles.

But yeah, that seems really weird. I'd experiment with plain paper, maybe putting a pen-tic on one side of the paper to see which side got printed on. Try printing from software other than Photoshop. Sometimes uninstalling the driver / printer and then reinstalling fixes really strange problems.

Idea of starting with plain bond paper is a good one. This printer is also meant for office documents, anyways. Take a look at the manual. There are 3 paper paths with the ET-8500.

However, you don't make clear. Are you putting the paper in the paper slot at the rear of the printer; or in a tray/drawer in the front of the printer, which I don't recommend for photo paper, anyway. In that case, the paper makes a 180 degree travel path before printing, so, there, RC photo paper would be put in the front tray printing surface down.

Even with an Airprint driver, the printer knows what profile to give if you choose Printer Manages Color. Everyday printing, OEM ink, OEM photo paper, I just use Printer Manages Color.

If you don't know how to install the full printer driver downloaded from Epson, let us know and I will try and walk you through it. It has gotten more complicated since the latest Mac OSes. I've posted it here a number of times. It may be searchable.

Good luck. And, always start with a nozzle check.

Good luck.

I use this software (free) ‘Epson Print Layout’ software from Epson for my Win10 based 8500 printing . The is a apple version too.

https://epson.com/epson-print-layout

it doesn’t list the 8500 as a supported printer but does indeed work, including all black/white mode, in stand alone mode, I have not yet tried from within say PS or LR applications.

I usually have to increase output print brightness about 10~20% to match monitor image.

Which means that your monitor is set too bright!

You should calibrate your monitor to match your print. Calibrate it with the 'Brightness' set to a lower level (say 80-100cd/m):

Hi

Thanks everyone for the pointers. I eventually got things sorted out, with the help of a certain Keith Cooper and some persistent fumbling about.

It's a good printer, and I like what I have now been able to print, picture-wise, but the setup is not the simplest, and this Airprint thing is a dog

All the best

I didn't see this post before, but it is good that you got it sorted out. However, the setup of this printer is really VERY simple and straight forward if you follow the steps which are clearly shown by Epson during the setup process, assuming you used the quick startup sheet.

I even made a video about it over a year ago, which of course is too late for for you, but may be help for others.

I recently got an EPSON-8500 and am also wondering about printer profiles. When I first got it I printed a photo on plain inkjet paper and was quite astonished at how good it looked.

However I have some Canon glossy photo paper left over from my previous printer and tried one using that and it comes out too dark. I selected a generic photo paper as the output medium, not one of the specific epson photo papers.

I have a colour analyser that will let me create a printer ICC profile by printing a test image and analysing it but if I did that I can't see where I would tell the printer to use that profile.

Any pointers now you have it working would be appreciated.

FWIW

I had some bespoke profiles made and they installed in the usual(?) manner.......right click > install.

Next, I use Epson Print Layout and if I select to use an icc profile I can see the bespoke profiles are there listed in the dropdown of all installed profiles for use as needed.

HTH

PS though this should make no difference I have the ET-8550
