I have a Sony A6400 that I mainly use for photography. Now I want to see if I can also use the camera to film my kids as they grow up.

My main photography setup is the following:
  • A6400
  • Sigma 18-50 2.8
  • Smallrig 3164 cage
The rig I am looking at:
  • Zhiyun Crane M3S
  • Rode VideoMic GO
Since both the lens and the body do not have IBIS, I thought about getting a small gimbal (Zhiyun Crane M3S with a Rode VideoMic GO). I plan on filming in HLG 4K, I do not plan on doing extensive video editing, maybe when I get the hang of it more in the future. Is this setup overkill to start learning videography? I might also pick up a 23 of 30mm 1.4 prime for both photo and video as well.

My advice - just start with gear you already have. Add only when you miss stabilisation or better sound. For basic family videos it's already good to me.
