Hi there,

I'm going to buy a new camera for a long (one or 2 years) trip with my family.

I've made up my mind to get an X-S20 with 16-80 (or 18-55 but I prefer the former) and 50-230 but since there is no X-S20 + 16-80 mm kit and I have to get both separately, I can get an X-T5 + 16-80 mm for about the same price.

Do you think it Is worth the upgrade ? It will be mainly for stills (family and landscapes), I don't want to do post-processing and I'm not sure I need the 40 MP (and the bigger file size is a negative point) and I'm not used to the dials (coming from an old Nikon reflex and a FZ1000) so I don't know if I will enjoy it. The weather sealing would be a welcome addition since we are going to spend a lot of time on boats and at the beach.

Thanks in advance !

I prefer my X-S20 over the X-T5 I sold. Weather resistance is nice, but if you don't change lenses in "adverse conditions", you probably won't have any issues. The XF16-80 being WR helps a lot.

Yes, definitely if you accept the X-T5 dials. If not, and you are happier with PASM and inferior viewfinder then you should buy the X-S20 and lens at standard prices.

I had a good play with an X-S20 (I already have the X-T5) and didn't like it. The grip was less comfortable, the viewfinder smaller, the shutter sound much louder and the size was almost the same. I also prefer the LCD coming out like it does on the X-T5 and I'm used to the dials now, so PASM didn't feel right. I also like the extra buttons you get on the X-T5.

I can't speak for image quality, but I am very happy with what I can get out of the X-T5.

I don't own either one of them as on the X-T5 I don't like a tilting screen and on the X-S20 there is no weather sealing. However, if I had to choose one I would go with the X-S20 for its fully articulated screen. I would just have to be careful in inclement weather with the camera. I shot for years with film cameras that had no weather sealing by covering them with a plastic bag, etc. Good luck in your choice.

Yes, they are both good for what you intend to do. Large file sizes have stopped being a negative issue a long time ago, IMHO.
