My GoPro Hero 10 Black suddenly decides not to charge the batteries or turn on. When I plug it in, the red charging light doesn't come on, but I noticed that the area around the front screen gets warm/hot when connected and plugged into a power source.

It's important to note that it's not the battery itself that's getting warm because the area around the front screen also heats up even when there's no battery inserted.

I have attempted the following:
1. 15-second hold power reset (with battery in and out of the unit)
2. Inserted and Removed the battery while the camera was plugged in.
3. Experimented with different cables, AC chargers, and connecting it to a computer.

Has anyone had this issue with their camera? Thanks!

Did you upgrade the f/w recently through the app?

Do you have enough battery power left? like >70%? Re-install the f/w with the micro SD card.

Does it power on otherwise? with external power?

Everyone generally uses an external charger.

One of my GoPros, a 10 was used for some indoor pictures for the wide angle a few days ago. Never dropped or wet. Loaded in a battery, did the app time/date setting before use. Framed a shot and then put it down on a table so I could get something.

Came back a few minutes later and the screen was dark. Sure, screen saver so I tapped the screen. Nada. Nothing could wake it up, support gave suggestions. If you load in a battery, it won't LED blink or react in any manner whatsover. If you plug in USB power, still no LED however it gets hot as the reaction. USB-C power meter shows about 0.7 amps is drawn at first, which then stabilizes at a steady 1 amp forever in a moment.

This might be what OP is experiencing. I've sat that GoPro off to the side for a week's rest...sometimes they can come back to life due to some internal power storage depleting. Battery or capacitor.

The right and genuine cards, frequent full reformatting, stored batteries out etc, etc. My first hard-brick ever since the Hero 3. I'll try again in a few more days. I can do the 99 plus tax exchange or just put the same towards a 12. I may try one of the github options since it seems to be a goner and for the fun of it. I would not mind if there were additional official options. If I was a conspiracy theorist I'd wonder if the app sent me a sniper virus to promote Hero 12 sales LOL.

Ok, now that sounds exactly like this problem. You mentioned a github solution? What would that be? Thanks!

Try letting it sit fully unpowered / no USB or battery for a week. Sometimes they can wake up when you try again after this step.

If you have any USB signal activity or card, BT etc some recovery may be possible via unofficial means.

You can search for options such as I have described.

Or just pay the 99 + tax on full MSRP and maybe shipping, or allow for that sum plus extra on the coming new models.
