Asking advice re "Multi-Function Lock"

After gaining a lot by reading these forums, thank you all for that, I finally have a question of my own:

How can an aging guy with stiffening fingers "lock" modern camera settings? What I mean is, I want to keep focus points and shooting modes from wandering capriciously off the settings that I painstakingly keep resetting.

Specifically, I've tried both the Canon g5x II (which I bought) and Canon R50 (which I rented). In both cases, my fingers are getting too clumsy to keep from brushing the tiny thing's ultra-sensitive touch screen and small rear thumb controller.

The focus point that I wanted in the middle suddenly is off in some random corner.

The single-shot mode that I set magically becomes a timed delay.

"Frustrating" isn't the word I'm really thinking of, but I'll be polite.

I've read everything I can find online, manuals and test reviews along with this forum, and although I see others complaining about it, I haven't found a solution to my specific problem.

Does anyone know how to "lock" these particular settings on either the g5x II or R50? Or point me to a menu setting I can't figure out on my own?

I was hoping to replace/supplement my decade-old 70D with a small, light, everyday carry mirrorless Wundercam that doesn't bring more frustration than satisfaction. But will I have to step up to bulkier, heavier models with "Multi-Function Lock," such as the R7?

Or maybe "Multi-Function Lock" doesn't actually do what I want either?

FYI I also rented an R10 for a week. This was large enough in my hands that it didn't seem to cause the same issues as the smaller cams, but it was neither "pocketable" nor really comfortable to hold, like my ancient 70D still is. That's why I'm now interested in the R7.

But that still doesn't satisfy my longing for something small and light that's more enjoyable to use than my iPhone.

Advice?
