I discovered that this lens is no longer being manufactured by Tamron. I was going to get the Nikon mount version to use on my Z cameras, with an adapter. I had the G1 version previously and the lens was fantastic, but I had sold it with my D750. Now I'm not sure what to do. Some retailers still sell it but I wondered if Tamron will come out with a Z mount version. Then I remembered they had just released the 17-28mm f/2.8 rebranded as Nikon, and the focal lengths seem to overlap too much. But I admired the optics and the focal lengths on the 15-30mm and the reviews that I've read were mixed on the 17-28mm.

I did reach out to Tamron but they were cagey about their future plans regarding this lens.

How likely or unlikely will they release a new iteration of their 15-30mm lens? I wanted a wide angle fast zoom mainly for Milky Way photography. I rarely otherwise would use this focal length and I shoot Milky Ways maybe once a year if that, so I'm loathe to splurge on Nikon's 14-24. I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and pull the trigger on the 15-30mm G2 while it's still in stock.

That's what I did a few months ago on the Sigma 12-24mm f/4. It had just been discontinued and I found a demo one for a good price. No regret at all. If you have the cash and it won't put you at risk, why not?

Do yourself a favor, and get a Tokina AT-X PRO 16-28mm f2.8. It's 95% as good as the Nikon at a third the cost. I bought one used for $300 CAD and I love it! (See my recent review. )

Seems clear that Tamron is or has discontinued quite a few good lenses.

I use the 10-24 HLD on Nikon dx which has gone but at least there are many others from sigma and Tokina around that range.

What has surprised me is that they appear to be dropping some very very good G2 lenses and with no roadmap yet about how they expect to licence MILC variants for tamikon Z or Sony.

The sp 90 macro was one of their flagships for many years. I have the adaptall 2 original and had the previous dslr version the F004.

The latest one, the f017 is one of the best standard macros imo ever made. I use it on dslrs but have had it converted for Z. Unusually, I have just bought a second copy (used ) since I see no peer and would be seriously unhappy if it broke and couldn’t be fixed.

I doubt Nikon would let Tamron bring a version to Z in competition with the 105 MC.

What's really interesting is that Nikon is collaborating at all with Tamron. Most of the (older) Tamron lenses wouldn't autofocus at all with the FT1 (for Nikon 1 cameras). It's little better with the FTZ.
