What Are You Getting During Amazon Prime Day?

I DEFINITELY need a newer GPU card and I'm seriously leaning towards an AMD/Gigabyte version since I'm running on a Ryzen system and Gigabyte MB.

I have been keeping my eye on prices so if I see a really good deal I'll be getting one soon, supposedly Amazon Prime is in July which is very soon. I can wait one month and I have a (gut feeling) that this year there will be much better sales than the last two terrible years.

The sales don't seem to be as good as they used to be. So maybe a few HDMI cables? And various converters? Those were a really good deal during Black Friday. Most other things aren't really going much lower than normal sale prices.

Maybe if a lens I need goes on sale? That's about the only big ticket item.

That’s not accurate. At least three years ago right before Covid I got my new Ryzen 3900X and most components I got they were at a very good price, PWR supply, RAM, CPU, case. The only thing I was not able to get at a lower price was my motherboard at the time. Amazon prime had those credit card promotions of $100 off. I saved a ton of money.
I disagree with you because I haven’t seen many good deals during the last two years (specially) on GPUs as we all know it.



Hopefully there will be some really nice discounts on some GPUs.

What are you looking for? Prime day is usually in July so it might make sense to buy a 3060 Ti for example before then. Prices are down to 330 which is a decent deal and waiting would mean betting that the supply will hold out until Prime day. With how badly the 4060 Ti compares (for games it's actually slightly slower in some titles and only a little faster in others) there likely will be a lot of demand for the 30 series part.

Same goes for the 3060 at 260. I forget if you're looking to go big or trying just to get a decent card to hold you over. But for 260 with 12GB of VRAM that's not horrible and could work for a few years no problem.

What are you looking for? Prime day is usually in July so it might make sense to buy a 3060 Ti for example before then. I’m shooting for a 6800XT. Either that or a 3070Ti but I want to jump to AMD.

This channel does monthly GPU price updates and might be a good thing to keep an eye on. If that price delta holds the 6950 XT is pretty tempting compared to the 6800 XT if you have a power supply that could handle it.

That $100 CC offer comes up every time I make a purchase. That has nothing to do with Prime Day, which Amazon made a big deal of at the onset, but now it's just another attempt to put a sense of buying urgency. But there are deals on GPUs all the time - the manufacturers decide when to do them and some may choose to do it for PD. But they also choose to do it for a lot of other times in the year.

The best opportunities will be for Amazon owned products - be it Ring, or their kindles or echos. After that, it's down to clearing out the slightly less popular versions of things.

Will look at a 2tb Samsung T7 or similar external ssd for some travel back-ups for a trip coming up. Kind of considering a 14" laptop to do daily reviews/sharing but the file management could be done with a file hub/portable router type device and the phone. I've got a 17" laptop but don't want to fly with it. Haven't settled on the trade-offs between lower end price and computing "power" so maybe if there's a particularly enticing choice or two.

I keep getting tempted on this one ( I have a 1tb model, and doubling it would help immensely), but it's often on sale for $119 and I decided I wasn't going to bother until I'm at least close to my next trip. The 4tb unit pricing might get better by then.

Sales can encourage you to buy for future needs in the pursuit of a good deal, and that's what I'm trying to avoid now.

They had the house brand HDMI 2.1 6ft cables for under 3 bucks at the end of December last year. It's 5.09 now which still isn't too bad and the 10ft one is only 5.64.
