I have read some good things about fixed wing drones. They take off and land vertically, they can fly for very long periods on a charge like over an hour, they have better cameras and are cheaper. One thing I don't remember seeing about fixed wing is that they don't seem to have very good range.

I'm not a drone expert, but I have been a private pilot and I think you may have mixed up fixed vs rotary wing. I believe that the advantage of fixed wing drones is that they are more energy efficient, while the advantage of quadcopters is that they can hover and rotate in place.

Fixed wing drones have to be constantly moving while quadcopters can hover in place. Also quadcopters have better maneuverability.

I recently tried HEQ's PNP drone: SWAN K1 PRO PNP, this drone has VTOL function, also provides flight control and GPS,only 399usd. I put my own gopro camera in and used the HEQ battery. The flight time was about 50 minutes, and the shooting pictures were very stable.
