many people on this forum buy hard-drives, so I thought others might be interested in what I bought and what it's performance is

I just bought and connected an external hard-drive to my laptop, details below

Are there any better deals out there?

thanks!

I tried on a 4TB Barracuda drive. Your sequential transfer rates are 50% faster. My random 4K seek times are a lot faster, which is likely due to the much smaller drive size.

Pretty fast bulk transfer rates. 🙂

I bought the case because it advertised the fastest transfer speeds...

the usb-c makes a big difference

although in practice I'm actually using a USB-C to USB-3x cable, which was included with the external drive case (the case only has a single USB-C connector, and a power wall-wart) so the case USB-C is only for communications, not power

(external drive case => usb-c connector => usb 3x connector => laptop)

for some reason this is faster than my laptop's "usb-c" port...possibly because the usb-c cable I have is for some reason not high speed. I haven't figured this out yet

the Asus A15 laptop has 2x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A

USB 3.1 Gen1 (USB 3.0), which provides speed up to 5Gbps while USB 3.1 Gen 2 is another name for USB 3.1 which provides a speed of 10Gbps.

USB 3.1 Type-C delivers a 10Gbps data transfer rate. This makes it more than 20 times faster than USB 2.0 and twice as fast as USB 3.0. It is also faster than the 6.0Gbps rate of the SATA III standard, allowing external hard drives to exceed the current speed of internal drives

I don't really understand this, but this is how it's working...

post-note: I just checked and my sub-c cable does NOT HAVE the high speed logo...

"Full-featured USB-C cables that implement USB 3.1 Gen 2 can handle up to 10 Gbit/s data rate at full duplex. They are marked with a SuperSpeed+ (SuperSpeed 10 Gbit/s) logo. There are also cables which can carry only USB 2.0 with up to 480 Mbit/s data rate. There are USB-IF certification programs available for USB-C products and end users are recommended to use USB-IF certified cables."

so far the new "USB-C" drive/dock works pretty goo.

the only issue is after robocopy-ing over a large file/folders, the drive became

very very warm. I opened the dock and placed my palm on the bare drive and it felt hot.

So I used my pizeo-electric cooler which fixed the issue

Also, I liked the drive/dock so I just bought another one
