What Originally Brought You To DPReview ?

I think it was Pentax K100d vs. Canon Rebel vs. Nikon D3x00 when I was looking for my first DSLR.

Exactly. This site has the best SEO. Every time I googled some camera question this site came up and it was usually the forums more than the reviews. After having this happen for about ten years straight I figured I might as well join.

In the summer of 2007 I decided to purchase my first DSLR. I found this site via a google search for "camera forums" and lurked for a while. I decided to join not long after Nikon announced the D300 on Aug 23, 2007.

Of course not the only reason. Read reviews from several sites and the dpreview ones stood out as among of the top 2-3, but searching the forums for funny(?) replies from Phil certainly contributed to make dpreview a favourite site,

Came for info.

Stayed for the Off-Topic forum.

Same here. I was trying to decide on my first DSLR. Although I had Pentax film cameras I was open to switching systems. I found DPR reviews with in depth descriptions of the buttons and menus invaluable in my search.

I was also able to get the opinions of various people here. Gathering those opinions gave me more material to research. I have analysis paralysis by nature so getting fodder to ponder worked great.

For me it was just a random search and the depth and breadth of this website convinced me it was the premiere place for information, this was probably 2010.

As an aside have Richard or any of the remaining staff posted where they are off to, besides Chris and Jordan?

I think I originally started reading the site around 2005 or earlier. I cannot remember why, but probably I had googled something to do with photography. I find most websites via online search, although these days I use duckduckgo more than google.

In late 2004/early 2005, I spent a lot of time online and reading magazines while deciding what DSLR to buy. I liked DPR more than the other websites and forums that I checked out.

Google if I recall. Maybe https://www.lycos.com/ but that was before Google and DPreview so most likely not. I don't remember when I stopped using Lycos

I was (?) a junkie for information on photography (multiple subscriptions to photography magazines) and it was the dawn of digital photography. DPReview was reviewing and posting information on digital cameras a couple of months before you could get the information in magazines. It was a no brainer to follow the site.

I got a coupon in the mail, along with a note promising a large check after my 2,000 post.

I'm almost there. I just need about 900 more posts in five days.

I was kinda hoping for 2000 posts also.

It's looking doubtful :-( Even with just 51 to go :-|

To further elaborate now that I have thought about it, I would have joined years earlier if I had realized white background and flat view were available. I hated the interface with threaded view and the black background is not for me.
