Most camera lenses are convex, but the 50mm f/1.2 GM is concave.

Felt tip on the LensPen is designed for convex curvature making it harder to clean.

Anyone tried using Lens pen AR/VR design which has a flexible tip?

I thought the idea of the LensPen was only to pick up individual spots, not to wipe it over the entire surface?

I can offer some general experience and one thing I do.

One is, if it ain't broke don't try to fix it. When I first started to get involved in photography in the '90's and film based SLR's, I thought It could not hurt to dust this and wipe that much like cleaning your home. It actually caused me a headache when using a lens brush on the cameras mirror. Part of the brush bristle came off inside and it was a PIA to get it removed. Never did it again unless needed and it tended to be dust and i used a blower bulb and if really needed compressed air.

For sake of lenses I will continue to say I use a multi coated protective clear filter on every lens. I do not feel or see any degradation in final image quality.

I never ever have to touch the lenses front element. I always use caps on the camera or lenses. Body cap, front and rear lens caps if anything is left alone. Smudges and dust on the rear lens element is something to keep clean but only if it needs attention.

I keep caps on so I never if ever have to address that.

My suggestion as I said, fine buy a lens pen just in case, but dont use it, just to use it.

You wipe the entire surface or where the fingerprint smudge are at. The idea is carbon dust absorbs oil, clumps up, then easily falls off the lenses surface or get brushed off.

Shows the different pen tip shape. Some have the curved shape for concex lenses while others are more flat for filters. However, the 50mm F/1.2 GM is concave so it's curvature is inverted. LensPen still work but less effective as only the edges of the tip comes in contact.

LenPen AR/VR version is a new design I haven't tried and curious if anyone has. Suppose to have a flexible tip to conform to curvature of AR/VR lenses better. The 50mm F/1.2 GM curvature seems similar to the AR/VR lenses.

Thank you for explaining that - what I'd heard of LensPen led me to believe you touched it to spots of dust to lift them off the lens. Sounds like it's more versatile than that.
